in 19 Jan 1981 This is the miraculous moment thatMuhammad Ali saved a suicidal man who was threatening to jump from a ninth-floor ledge.

The late boxing champion , who died at the age of 74 this morning, left onlookers stunned as he dangled out of a window and talked the man down within 20 minutes after police negotiators had been trying for hours. The baying crowd watching from the ground had chillingly urged the "distraught" man to jump, but Ali offered a beacon of hope by promising to help the man find a job, thisCBS News report shows.

Ali, dressed in a suit and tie, had raced to the scene a mile from his house "driving up the wrong side of the street" when his manager told him about what was going on.

He told the man: “You’re my brother. I love you and I wouldn’t lie to you. You got to listen. I want you to come home with me, meet some friends of mine.”

The boxing legend then put his arms around the vulnerable 21-year-old and took the man to hospital in his Rolls-Royce.

As he walked away from the scene onlookers chanted “USA! Digs Ali! USA! Digs Ali!” but rather than stopping for fans Ali focused all his time on the unidentified man.

I don’t care if he dodged the draft, I still love and admire the guy.

I remember seeing an old clip of the most hated man in America, John D Rockefeller tipping a caddy 10 cents. Wasn’t he a great man!

Also saw a clip of a jobless man praising Al Capone for his soup kitchen! Wasn’t he great man!

That could never happen today. We are too civilized to let anyone but a professional talk to him. It was a better world.

This is really complicated, so try to keep up, but most people are not 100% bad, or 100% good.
As for that dime, that was at a time when $5 a day was an amazing wage and you could actually get something with it back then.

And it looks like Ali did a wonderful thing that day.

According to the report: The man Ali talked out of jumping was then brought to the psychiatric ward of a veterans hospital. Ali said he would visit him there.

It was all a part of a publicity stunt campaign to improve Rockfeller's image. He gave them out to everyone even Firestone.

He didn't. He refused to go and spent 2 years in prison for it. Many other ran to Canada or Sweden but Ali took his medicine like a man.

While I disagree with his decision, I respect him for it.

This happened 35 years ago. Does anyone know what became of the man he saved?

Among other things, Ali financed a research and treatment center for Parkinson's Disease based in Phoenix.

True story, I broke into Sen Jay Rockefeller’s car for him once. A staffer locked the keys in his car at a Big Brothers/Big Sisters event. I had a work truck and some wire to pop the lock. I got a thank you, I’ll give him that.

I was wrong. Apparently he stayed out of prison while on appeal.

That said, you have the manners of an idiot.
