Driver Stunned When Turtle Comes Crashing Through Her Windshield

It’s something that you likely would never expect while driving down the highway.

However, Nicole Bjanes says she is lucky to be alive after a freak accident along I-4 in Orlando earlier this week.

Bjanes told WESH that a vehicle in front of her ran over a turtle in the middle lane of the highway.

Somehow, the turtle ended up crashing through her windshield, hitting the passenger’s seat and coming to rest on the dashboard.

Bjanes walked away with just a few cuts.

Amazingly, the turtle survived and appeared to be uninjured.

Emergency crews looked it over before releasing it into a nearby pond.

The turtle was too small to go on the Disney rides, so it came up with its own thrilling ride.

Must’ve been a snapping turtle. The little Terrapins and Box Turtles we have here don’t make it through traffic, they get crushed. Tender-hearted people stop and carry them across the road, because they move so slowly that they’re very likely to get run over.

I would normally stop to pick up a turtle and move it out of the road, but the last turtle I saw looked suspiciously like a snapping turtle. Nope, that dude’s on his own.

I saw a guy a couple of years ago helping a snapper out of the road. I wanted to say “Stop...don’t do it!!”

That turtle stretched out his neck and latched on to the guy’s arm and wouldn’t let go.

Poor guy.

Yep, wife rescued a box turle years ago. It lived with us in it’s own little space for quite a few years, tolerating kittens hunting it. Wife read up on them and built a shelter for her to hibernate. She did.

Because of climate change, turtles are evolving wings

Those things can move faster than you’d think, too. I nearly hit a huge snapping turtle driving one night, I honesty thought a stump had fallen off a truck or something at first. The red eyes shining in the headlights were the only reason I knew what it was. Turned the car around to get a better look, maybe get a picture, and it was gone. In less than a minute.

I’m thinking it squibbed, kinda like pinching a watermelon seed between your thumb and index finger.

They’re humble little animals. I rescued one from my Lab years ago, he was carrying the turtle around in his mouth, and had chewed the edge off the turtle’s shell in a few spots. Took it to the wildlife vet, they assured me that it would be fine and would be released. Said they patched them up all the time, most often due to encounters with lawn mowers.

certainly weird. But glad she only had minor injuries and that the turtle was OK too.

This tender hearted person once pulled a 7 foot bull snake off the road and sent it into the bushes so it would not get run over. It showed it’s gratitude by not biting me.

I try to avoid killing any animal with my car if I can help it, except for poisonous snakes.

You’re more brave than I am, I’ll let a snake be if it’s not poisonous, but I’m still not keen on getting bitten by them.
