It might be a little too early to get excited about anything in the far-off month of August, but six legendary Ford performance cars about to pique your interest, and then some.
Every year, the worlds rarest and most valuable classic cars flood onto Californias sunbaked coastline in August for the annual Pebble Beach Concours dElegancean event that has become known worldwide as the premier celebration of the automobile.
Its a must-see for automotive window shoppers, as is RM Sothebys accompanying auction for those actually interested in buying. This year, the auction house will sell-off six rarified Ford and Shelby vehicles from enthusiast and dealership owner Jim Clicks esteemed collection. The highlight? This jaw-dropping 1966 Ford GT40 Mark I, which could sell for upwards of $4.25 million.

Don’t do that to me. LOL
The car that gave Jo Siffert a nervous breakdown.
Yeah I was thinking another $500 for ammo might just bring down my house of cards lol.
“the early ones came out with the 289 “
and I think an Italian transmission that usually broke. That was when John Wyer was running the show at first.
Then Carroll Shelby took over.
Those mid-'60s Fairlanes were great cars.
I’d like to try on a nice ‘64 Galaxie 2-door someday.
Yep - the crown jewel of Seinfeld's car collection.
That's the way I remember it. Mk I cars = 289, Mk II cars = 427 (mostly for the extra speed down the Mulsanne Straight).
.
Ok, Wickipedia has it wrong. That is where I looked it up.

I had a ‘64 Fairlane with a 260. It got about 12 miles to the gallon. I think it was advertised that it got 14 mpg. But gas was only 25 cents a gallon. There were many times I’d get 50 cents worth, as we used to say.
Had a friend who had a ‘67 Comet Caliente with a 289. He could make the left from wheel come off the ground a few inches when he popped the clutch.
25 cents a gallon is inflation adjusted $1.78 today.
So if you add in the state & fed road tax increases since then, it’s right about what we’re paying now.
Wow, I just saw two of them yesterday, no kidding. Local car dealer owns them, houses them in a museum here, open one day a year.
There were a couple of others outside, they were doing a charity car show.
That was an overwhelming experience, what a lot of cool old iron.
Tom is a friend of mine, and I have been in this car:

When Carrol Shelby died Tom had a PO for 50 of these cars. You take him a Brand New Mustang and $100K and he will build you one, NASCAR Certified. He makes some pretty awesome cars and horsepower that you would not believe.

that does not look like a GT-40. That looks more like a Porsche 917.
