My non opus, opus
May 2, 2016 | Shotgun

What has happened to the Free Republic that I can’t break away from? You know the one where you knew something big was happening in the world because you couldn’t open the site because of too much traffic (late 90’s)? The one that where you read articles that were of great interest on science, religion, or the bizarro? The one where you would have to don a flame retardant suit if you posted something that was outside the thought prevailing thought process of the other posters? I long for those days as I am sure many of us do as well as those that left. I don’t particularly care for the bulk of the political posting but, like watching television, have decided not to open them up rather than throw in the towel and leave the site. Yet I’m still here waiting for those days to return, checking in every 15 minutes for earth shaking news. These days will pass albeit slower than I like and so too will this election cycle. Interesting times are ahead…

It’s chaos! Dogs liking cats, Indiana being relevant in the primary!

Well, you know, at some point you pound on your kid brother until you're both tired of it and you admit to yourselves that you still have to live together and that he might not be such a bad guy after all. We're not quite at the end point yet but our little fists are starting to hurt. As they should.

I will confess a certain impatience toward the drama queens we've been seeing the last few days who apparently feel that (1) everyone who disagrees with them is evil, and (2) that FR is going to melt into a puddle of goo at their departure. Let them go.

Politics is a rough and tumble enterprise. It has never been some sort of respectful exchange of ideas. Sometimes it’s worse than others. But with a govt of such sweeping extra institutional powers as we now have, expect it to be pretty brutal. Politics is not for the faint of heart. If one can’t take it then stay out of the kitchen.

It helps me that I did my year in Nam. The “worst” that anyone can do on the Internet is weak tea in comparison. Being called foul names is merely an amusement now.

If you think the FR is bad try DailyKos or DU. At least you don’t see a lot of personal threats on the FR.

“If you want it to stick, it has to be true. “

Trump has admitted sleeping with other men’s wives. What would you call that?

Being either a Trump hater or just a Cruz supporter you just failed to notice how some Cruz supporters were acting, apparently. Having been a Cruz supporter that went to Trump, I noticed. They were relentless, and calls for them to cease and desist went unheeded.

[[I have discovered that Liberals do not have a corner on the mob “group-think” mentality,]]

I just read a very itnerestign article on groupthink the other day- wish i had bookmarked it-

[[There are some very reasonable and objective people who discuss things on this website, but their voices are often drowned out by the loud, knee jerk reactionaries and by various agenda driven folk. ]]

Thjat’s what universities like Berkley do- shout down and opposition, and demand that leaders in the school ban opposing views from appearing- it’s very defiantly a case of group think- ‘safety in numbers’- feeling sheltered beneath the wing of the groupthink mother chicken- And hte funny part is that the groupthink group accuses of outsiders of ‘not having an original thought i ntheir head’ and calls them ‘sheeple’

[[Rumor mongering and vile gossip have become all too common, and so many people just swallow up the latest bilge, seemingly without any sort of skepticism.]]

it got really bad here during the National Enquirer filth that was posted nonstop here- And even though no reputable news station would touch that baseless scandal with a 10 foot pole, I suspect many are still secretly hoping it will take Ted down-

Does that mean you don't know any personally, or that you believe it is a myth?

I could understand why you would not be aware, even if in fact you may have associated with someone with this physical abnormality, unless you got intimate with everyone you met.

Thinking back to high school I think I knew a girl that was one, but I can't confirm it. Without getting into details I will just say that her boyfriend was a friend of mine and what he told me now makes me believe she was a hermaphrodite. They are born that way and the surgery takes place to remove the confusion, not to make them hermaphrodites.

If you believe it is a myth, I assure you it is not. All you have to do is perform a search and you will see pages upon pages documenting the condition. Some even with pictures.

Things are no different today than back then- you may think they are- but they aren’t-

It is a myth

There has never been a fully functional male and female in the same human body ever documented

There are some with mismatched sexual apparatus

Immature ovarian tissue in a man

Penis looking clitoris and hood

Mammarial conflict

But never a true hermaphrodite that I’ve ever read of documented

I guess for myself is the Cruz/Trump thing hasn’t been so noticeable because I was on the fence and okay with supporting EITHER of them up until recently. I mean I had two choices out of seventeen and one of them looks to be winning. I couldn’t be happier!

I can live with Trump, but I would have preferred Cruz. I wasn't a huge supporter, but I thought the man was the better ideological and philosophical choice. I likewise thought he deserved better from the people for whom he has fought in the past. I thought he deserved better than the hateful vitriol that has been thrown at him.

That being said, I have high hopes for Trump. I think Trump will do some very important things, like Clamp down on Immigration. I think he will see that the United States benefits from better trading relations. I think he will focus on reviving the economy.

Where I worry about him is on Judicial appointments, and going along with Big Government ideas. (The same worry I had with George HW Bush.)

But I can't grasp the need for people to buy into the smear campaigns. Why did we need to post smears for either candidate? Why did anyone feel the need to go find these backwater tin-foil hat sources just so they could spread some malignant rumor or false accusations about either man?

This isn't how grown ups do things. This is how irresponsible children do things.

Ted Cruz has a better chance of being hit in a drone strike than getting to the second ballot at the convention. :-)

You're so far behind the curve. Contested conventions are not good for the party that experiences them, in general.

Thorough articles have been published on the topic.

Contested conventions are something to be avoided when at all possible.

Fortunately, that's what is going to happen. The last contested GOP convention was in 1976, 40 years ago, and that convention produced a loser.

Furthermore, in the 1076 GOP convention, Ford and Reagan were very close in their delegate totals, unlike the totally lopsided situation this time around.

SO it's apples and oranges even for the most recent convention, which was 40 years ago.

Like I said, it's something party's try to avoid.

That's why the thoughtful folks who care about their party and their country are going to avoid any GOPe or Cruz (but I repeat myself) convention shenanigans this time around.

So Vote Trump

Being either a Trump hater or just a Cruz supporter you just failed to notice how some Cruz supporters were acting, apparently.

I am not a Trump hater. I think Trump is a far better choice than all the other candidates in the race except for Cruz. I am not terribly bothered that Trump appears to be wrapping this up. We could have done much, much worse.

As for some Cruz supporters, yeah I noticed that there was childish crap coming from them too. My point is that we should have all been better than that.

If you look through my posts, you won't find a single example of me mocking or ridiculing Donald Trump. I point out that he's from New York, and that he has been a Liberal Democrat most of his life, and that I worry about what sort of Judicial appointments he will make. I have even posted a few Pro-Trump messages.

I can live with Trump. It's the Jeb Bushes, or the Lindsey Grahams, that I couldn't stand.

They were relentless, and calls for them to cease and desist went unheeded.

I avoided most of these crap throwing threads because I do not see any value in them. Even so, I've seen plenty of uncalled for messages coming from the supporters of both candidates. I can't say which side was worst because I really didn't want to read any of it.

But what I did see was bad enough.

“This isn’t how grown ups do things. This is how irresponsible children do things.”

I agree. The compulsion to isolate, insult, and demean people WE NORMALLY LIKE AND SUPPORT just because they support a different candidate is childish.

That "mistresses" smear was really low. Especially as there doesn't seem to be in corroborating evidence regarding it. Didn't matter. People simply accepted it without even trying to give the man the benefit of the doubt.

When something reinforces what a person wants to believe anyways, people often accept it without worrying whether it is true or not.
