Target Boycott Petition Breaks 1 Million Signatures

TUPELO, Miss. (ChurchMilitant.com) - A petition calling for a nationwide boycott of Target has broken 1 million signatures.

Organized by pro-family non-profit the American Family Association (AFA), the petition comes in response to an announcement last week from the retail giant in which the company stated it would allow "transgender team members and guests to use the restroom or fitting room facility that corresponds with their gender identity."

"Inclusivity is a core belief at Target," the post reads. "It's something we celebrate. We stand for equality and equity, and strive to make our guests and team members feel accepted, respected and welcomed in our stores and workplaces every day."

The short announcement concludes by asserting "[e]veryone deserves to feel like they belong."

The statement has been met with much backlash from various organizations, including the AFA, which maintains that policies like the one implemented by Target are "exactly how sexual predators get access to their victims."

"Clearly, Target's dangerous new policy poses a danger to wives and daughters," the AFA notes. "We think many customers will agree. And we think the average Target customer is willing to pledge to boycott Target stores until it makes protecting women and children a priority."

The petition was launched shortly after news had broken of Target's announcement and has since garnered a little over 1 million signatories who pledge to "shop elsewhere" until "Target makes the safety of women and children a priority."

The organization cites examples from across the country of what they claim Target's policy can lead to, including multiple cross-dressing men arrested in various states for filming inside of women's restrooms and locker rooms.

Despite the recent surge in pro-transgender initiatives sweeping the country's schools and stores, several studies indicate the percentage of Americans who identify as transgender to be well below 1 percent, with a 2011 paper by the Williams Institute estimating the number at around 700,000 adult Americans — or 0.3 percent — of the population. According to the 2010 census, around 22,000 had legally changed their sex, and only a little over 135,000 have legally changed their name to one of the opposite gender since the formation of the Social Security Administration in 1936.

The Census Bureau does not currently track gender identity and, despite pushes for the collection of data on transgender individuals to improve statistics, the agency asserts it has no plans to include such information in the 2020 census.

Well when your attitude shows it, I call it.

Oh you think of their “safety” but you never thought of the situation that fomented the danger! At least not enough to make it more than academic.

And filthy sub humans... does God even talk like that?

This is your preening ego, ma’am. God sends HUMANS to hell. Not filthy sub humans. Even in punishment they retain their dignity.

People may PRETEND that they are sub human. But God will not allow them that excuse. They are held responsible for the same things that all humans are.

They must repent or be damned. But they are not damned sub humans. They are damned humans who have embraced evil for eternity, forever at illogical war towards God.

The possibility of repenting must needs moderate our attitudes. Us-vs-them is wrong when God Himself says that from them may come us. In fact we were all them at one point.

Remembering our history and being grateful and reacting in a condign way would seem to be incumbent upon us. God personally reserves the right to eternally damn any person. He does not farm it out to us.

What are trans-gender men afraid of when they go into a men's restroom?

So instead of trans-gender men being afraid and uncomfortable, we put that on women and children?

Yikes... maybe be should use children in combat - our soldiers can hide behind them.

Seriously, what ARE trans-gender men afraid of when confronted with being in a men's bathroom?

Yes, I’ve never seen a man bring a young girl into a men’s bathroom... have you?

You’re right that I won’t fault people for attempting a boycott. It’s really hard to fault people for trying to do what they can to improve the world. However....

I think the days of boycott effectiveness have passed unless they are quick, massive, and unanimous. Boycotts have to overwhelm if they are going to get the attention of something as slow and massive as a multinational. Conditions have changed a lot in the fifty or so years since the last really successful boycott.

I don’t think this boycott is quick or fast enough and the public is divided. Some people approve of transsexuals using the bathroom of their choice. Even more don’t care where Caitlyn Jenner squats. Just as many can’t be bothered to pay attention.

As a nation we are all over the place.

Yup, the problem is much bigger than confused men pretending to be women and boycotts. Many innocent suffer as a result. Multiple problems of rebellion spawning even more in a never ending death spiral to the bottom. Lord, come quickly!

My nearest neighbor wouldn’t know what the noise was if my doors were kicked in. Too far away.

If I’m home; then I can hear the noise and do something about it. (Sic ‘em, Jack!)

Even in punishment they retain their dignity.

That'll help a lot.

I think the days of boycott effectiveness have passed unless they are quick, massive, and unanimous.

Long gone.

Divide and conquer has been proven quite effective.

We used to have shared experiences that were holiday driven.

Then radio started splitting the audience.

Then TV came along and we got back some of the uniformity with only 3 channels from which to choose.

These days are also long gone; literally HUNDREDS of things to divide us on cable and now the web.

Our children are listening to WHAT?
You've no idea; as they have the earphones on.

Even the web is fragmented allover the place with increasingly more 'social media' sites appearing all the time.

No way I’m condoning what Target is doing by supporting them.

And this has nothing to do with how God deals with the individual sinner who REPENTS of his sin. We cannot be silent in the face of perversity. That’s what has gotten us in this mess in the first place. If believers don’t speak up, just who do you think will? The world which is promoting this kind of perversity and depravity?

At any rate I am not one of the million-plus, nor will I be, even though my visits have been rare. I am not going to cement myself into a rigid attitude just because a “Christian” mob is headed that way.

How very righteous of you in contrast to the Christian "mob" that at least does something to make a statement against this demonic ideology that is behind the inclusive exclusive actions of Target.

Who has prayed for Target? It sounds like very few.

Of course you would know that, and surpass them. I am not impressed by your holier-than-thou attitude. Sorry.

I disagree. Outlandish actions as this provide a helpful opportunity for Christians to rally, and make a statement, which unity has been missing and needs to increase. The alternative is to do what? More of the same? And 1 million people by just one ministry is relatively impressive.

Agreed. Some misinterpret God's long suffering of evil for God's love of mankind. God cannot tolerate evil or what it does to civilization or His creation. We keep drawing a line in the sand daring God to step over that crack. At some point in time, God will have had enough and judgment will fall just as it did on Sodom, the Canaanites, and Israel.

One would thing the 2,000+ year of documented history of the Jews of the Old Testament should teach us something. Some need to reexamine the scriptures.

I think what you mention are perfect examples of cultural fragmentation. It can arrive as friendly options promising individualism and customization but it really just grinds everything flat.

They definitely did that part right. One petition at one source with lots of individual messages asking people to sign. The internet works for these sorts of campaigns when they can be successful.
