Legal Immigration Destroyed the Roman Empire.

You probably know the Visigoths as the Germanic tribes who invaded the Roman Empire. You're wrong. The Visigoths did not "invade" the Roman Empire. They were legal immigrants, who simply never fully assimilated into Roman law.

The Visigoths lived in Dacia, the region beyond the Northern frontier of the Roman Empire, north of Greece and what is now Bulgaria. Invasions from Huns led Goth leader Fritigern to appeal to Roman Emperor Valens to immigrate to Rome. Valens perceived of them as potentially productive workers and even soldiers.

The Visigoths soon became impoverished, and began selling their women for food and access to water. Resenting this, they revolted. An entire Roman army collapsed. Rome eventually defeated the initial rebellion, but was forced to move their Western capital from the City of Rome to Ravenna, for safety.

The peace was not long lasting. Ravenna continued to permit Gothic immigration, and internal migration into France and Germany. She saw the Goths as cheap labor for maintaining the strength of the Ravenna Empire in the face of pressure from Vandals.

It wasn't long before the Goths attacked the City of Rome, however. Constant warfare between the Goths and Latins led to a calamitous weakening of the Western Empire, until it was finally conquered in 476 by Orestes the Hun.

The Eastern Roman Empire would survive hundreds more years.

I preached that history on FR so many times. It’s even on Youtube as a series on the fall of the empire. The Roman army was so full of foreigners near the end who were not loyal to the empire but their own “motherlands’ and/or tribes..

The USA is systematically de-industrializing and has 100,000,000 not working and doesn’t need to import another single person. Stop all immigration indefinitely.

The visigoths were always revolting. Heck, they stank on ice!

This is exactly what I have been thinking. Immigration should serve *OUR* interests, not those of the Immigrants. We have no obligation to the people of other countries, but our government *OUGHT* to have an obligation to it's own citizens.

Being Kind to Foreigners is not the primary duty of the US government. Ensuring the well being of it's own citizens, IS.

Dacia had been part of the Roman Empire at its height. Rome was weakened by disease and civil war, and retrenched. Dacia is largely modern Romania and Moldova. Romania is called Romania because the Dacians were Romanized and Roman soldiers settled there.

And you are dramatically over simplifying the Gothic War. That said, I have long been saying of our southern border that our Danube has been breached and that Hadrianople awaits.

I wouldn’t in any way deny that I’ve fantastically simplified the fall of Rome. Edward Gibbon spent several volumes; I spent a few, scant paragraphs.

However, I’m not referring to the Roman provice of Dacia, but to the area immediately to the East of that province, and to the north of Moesia Inferior and Thracia, from which the Roman province (IIRC) got its name.

I’d say spitting into the wind is at best...

I could quote the Founding Fathers on why we have the Government we do, but it would offend a great many Freepers who don’t believe they are responsible for the Government we have. Pretty sad, and this election cycle might just be more confirmation should Hillary happen to win.

If the country has sunk so low that Hillary can win, we might as well just try to salvage what we can.
