Voting today in Maryland - Vanity
April 26, 2016 | 47

Posted on 04/26/2016 7:55:22 AM PDT by FourtySeven

So I'm voting today in Maryland, a larger turnout than usual is expected. It will be interesting to see if there are lines at my polling place. I still don't believe it will be that great, the nominations are pretty much a done deal at this point I don't see why anyone would turn out in great numbers. At least not in comatose Baltimore City. (Yes I live in the city limits; slowly trying to convince my wife to move)

In case anyone is interested, I'm still voting for Ted Cruz. I'm sorry, I can't wrap my head around voting for Trump (yet). In the general, should be secure the nomination (which is of course likely), yes of course. I'm not nor will ever be #NeverTrump. I'm #NeverNeverTrump I guess you could say. I will vote for him in November. But not now, sorry.

There's nothing to be said to convince you the reader of my choice. You can't say anything to convince me. So let the flames begin if you must. I thought about not posting this vanity, but I wanted to let my (now few) fellow FReepers who still support Cruz that yes, there are still some left.

I would say though to such compatriots that we must not become #NeverTrump, even as we know many lies were spread by some of his supporters about Cruz. Not all of his supporters did that, and who can blame him for capitalizing on the "Lyin Ted" meme when it started to stick. I don't. I really don't. He really does want to win, and all is fair in politics really. He's fought a good fight and his (near) victory is deserved. So kudos to him for running a brilliant campaign. He certainly knows how to reach "the people". So maybe he is the best for this country now.

There is nothing however that can convince me Trump is more conservative, by definition, than Ted Cruz. Despite Cruz's recent actions (again, all is fair in politics) there is no question he is the more conservative politically, and that's what a primary is ultimately all about. Choosing the candidate who is most in line with the party platform.

So I'm off to vote. Soon. After work. I'll check in periodically to read the flames and hopefully few supportive comments. There should at least be a few good chuckles here.

Thanks and God Bless,

Voted for Mr. Trump in Harford County at my local firehall this morning. Felt so proud and excited to finally support the next POTUS. Saw only Trump signs and republicans were beating democrats in turnout at my precinct. Vote Trump and MAGA!!!!

I have been a Cruz supporter and voted for him in Idaho.

But the facts on the ground are what they are and at this stage we desperately need the GOP to come together...and we are going to need to come together behind Trump.

I wrote the following to senator Cruz after the NY Primary on that score:
http://www.jeffhead.com/Cruz-ltr.htm

We simply must win in November.

God bless you for your honest vote and fpr your message. Many of us (hopefully most) will do the same when it comes time to get behind the nominee.

Cruz has changed his position on H-1B visas. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLiM1awLylc

Cruz isn’t my guy. Actually I think he is kinda creepy. But he is the only remaining choice that closely aligns with my views and I believe he is actually a conservative. As a member of the Republican party I will vote in the primary for the candidate that aligns with my radical right wing views. Then come the general I will vote for our nominee. But I understand that the primary is only a preference survey. I want my views represented. I know Cruz can’t win just like I knew that Alan Keys couldn’t win when I voted for him. It is my choice.

A very good response. I will say that your reasons are why I will vote Trump in the general, if and when he is the nominee.

We share the same (correct) attitude. I just returned form voting in Aberdeen. No line at all.

Voted for Cruz, Wallace for Senate and McDonough for US House.

I expect the outcome to be Trump, Szeliga and McDonough.

I fear for the state if outright race communist Donna Edwards is nominated for Senate although I suspect that the Republican nominee would prefer her over Van Hollen. (he seems to be remotely competent)
I wonder how the Mayor Demonrat Primary will go? Elizabeth Embry sounds like she would be highly competent, but is polling a distant third after the criminal Sheila Dixon and Pugh.

I moved to Maryland the day Dixon was convicted of stealing gift cards from poor children.

Serious question, has Ted Cruz broken the power of the media?

Serious question, the media hates Trump, so much so, they have virtually ignored Cruz. They want to destroy Trump, left and right, yet they have not; why don’t you consider this breaking the power of the media?

But you do realize, don’t you, that you are not really voting for Cruz, you are voting for a brokered convention, and Jeb Bush/Mitt Romney the nominees.

Great. Now I personally am looking forward to a change in the way D.C.does business. Devolving the centralization of everything. Given that Mr. Cruz has been a part of the structure there for recent history, please give me an example of how you think he will change the way it operates?

The only evidence I have to go by is the actions of him, 1) voting for Corker bill that surrendered the legislative power of treaty making to the executive branch, 2) supporting TPP initiatives, 3) advocating for a 500 % increase in HB-1 visas.

I can't find a reason to hope Mr. Cruz would change anything for the better. At best he would IMO continue the status quo? Are you comfortable with business as usual? If not please help me understand how Ted would lead a coalition of change, and just where is this coalition he has built during his time in government?

Fair enough, sir. Vote your conscience, although I can't believe you're willing to overlook Cruz's overtly unprincipled and Machiavellian actions.

But just make sure you stick around for the general and help Donald Trump defeat Hillary, which, of course, can't happen if Trump is denied the nomination by the GOPe at a contested convention, which would splinter the party, destroy voter enthusiasm, cause countless Trump voters to stay home, and see Hillary elected in a November landslide..

Vote Trump

I have every confidence that Trump will be receiving the delegates from my district in MD. Hell he came to our local high school last week. So no, I am not concerned with my vote leading to a brokered convention.

You will find a very diverse groups of voters supporting Donald Trump, because his “tell it like it is” style is a refreshing change from the slick, polished politicians that dominate the American political class. We are tired of the American political class that run deceptive campaigns and say whatever they have to in order to gain votes.

Rather meaningless...No one knows what conservative means any more...It appears then that conservative means anti American sovereignty, anti American TPP...Most so called conservatives support open borders to illegal aliens and muzlims terrorists...Conservatives like Cruz support taking away the jobs of newly graduated college students and giving them to cheap labor visa holders from India...

I think you ought to change your moniker to GOPe and leave that 'conservative' charge to Trump supporters who really embrace patriotism, freedom and liberty...

I do not believe that the change you are looking for can be achieved through political means. The DC machine is not going to be broken by Trump. They (the K street lawyers, consultants, and politicians) will weather the storm until it blows over, then continue on their merry way.

I do believe that Cruz would nominate conservative judges, are you certain that Trump would do the same? What track record of conservative actions has he demonstrated outside of his brief political career. I am not going to hold my breath.

Cruz to me is the lesser of many evils. Not my white knight. How realistic are you of Trumps ability to deliver on his pandering to the Republican base? I have little faith in any politician to do anything but line their own pockets at the expense of the American citizen. Anyone that actually wants to be President is not to be trusted.

Cruz has changed his position on H-1B visas. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLiM1awLylc

Cruz has also changed his position on amnesty, all recent developments. He has had a conversion on the road to Cleveland. He has changed his stance on trade since co-authoring a WSJ opinion piece with Ryan on TPA. Cruz responds to his donors like the Club for Growth and Goldman-Sachs.

Cruz position paper on immigration still doesn't decrease legal immigration. He has promised not to increase legal immigration from the current levels of 1.1 million a year. Trump wants to return legal immigration down to historical levels, i.e., 200,000 a year.

There is a reason why Jeff Sessions, Phyllis Schlafly, and Kris Kobach have endorsed Trump over Cruz. And Steve Miller a top staffer for Sessions on trade issues, has moved over to work for Trump. I don't trust Cruz whom I believe is a GOPe insider pretending to be an outsider. He is just another Harvard lawyer who has spent most of his adult life feeding at the government trough. He knows how to manipulate conservatives using the right buzz words. Cruz is a grandstanding gadfly who is a pariah in his own party, mainly due to his overriding personal ambition that pushes him to start at the top despite being a first term senator with little executive experience.

You are entitled to your choice. I already voted for Trump here in SC. Trump will win in MD. Cruz will probably finish third.

Being from CO I’m confused.

What is this ‘vote’ you speak of?

Sounds like you have to go somewhere to do that.

Seems inconvenient.

Aren’t all your delegates automatically going to Cruz?

Serious question, what makes you think Trump is the man for the job of breaking the power of the media?

He has already exposed much of the so-called "conservative" punditry to be GOP Establishment.

When he doesn't get careless, he has the ABCCBSNBCCNNFox crowd barking like trained seals.

Actually, the Democrat down ballot races in MD are really interesting. Van Holland v. Edwards for the Senate...seems that black candidates don’t matter to the Black Caucus..and of course, will Baltimore elect an admitted crook back to the mayor’s office.
