That didn’t discourage them getting to vote when I lived in New Orleans, as the standard rate was $25 per vote (at least for the first one).

Bernie sounds as if he forgot to have a good knock-and-drag plan in place. You can bet hillary knows how to get the poor to vote. Several times.

Bernie thinks the poor are poor because somebody decided to make them poor. Thus, everything the poor don’t do, or have, or know, is the result of “injustice.”
This is the way almost all clergy (at least the loud ones) think. E.g., the Pope.
The truth is that people are, in most cases, and in most countries, poor because they are unintelligent. The things they don’t know, don’t have, and don’t do are the result of lack of intelligence.
This truth does not comport with the career goals of people like Bernie, or Bergoglio.
Poor people vote often on Election Day in all big cities in the USA

In 2012 and 2008 a lot of poor people voted because they were voting for their ‘own kind’, not because they were poor.

What Bernie isn’t saying is the poor don’t turn out for the primaries unless one of the candidates pays them to turn out and transports them to the polls In the fall election they will be rounded up by the community activists, handed a $20.00 bill and taken by bus to the polling station where the only effort required of them will be to show voter ID in some states, be instructed as to how to operate the voting machine, and then be left alone in a voting booth to fill out a ballot. At the same time orderlies at nursing homes will be “helping” the elderly fill out absentee ballots or taking them to the polls and “assisting” them in the polling booth.
Statistics show the poor show up in droves during the presidential elections. One of the major reasons Obama reneged on his promise to accept federal funding in 2008, if McCain would do the same, is the federal funds were insufficient to pay for the Democrat voter roundup and payoff in urban areas and swing states.
Turnout among the poor and minorities is lower during the off cycle when only Congress is elected. Few Democrat Congressmen and Senators can afford to fund the roundup, or need to do so since they are in safe seats.
While demographic trends favor the Democrats, the Democrats still cannot win national elections without the paid community organizer roundup and the union get out the vote effort. Expect Hillary to raise and spend a billion dollars to bus the urban poor to the polls and hundreds of millions more in PAC money to fund negative television advertising to anger minority voters.
Bernie could have enjoyed the support of the poor voters in the primaries. All he had to do was pay for them to come to the polls.
