I'm seeking an external (USB) CDR/DVD burner that is HIGHLY accurate.

Any recommendations is most welcomed and appreciated.

Define “highly accurate”. I’ve been in IT Sales for 25 years and have no idea what you’re referring to.

Can you please tell me what you would mean by an “inaccurate” drive?

Are you worried about bump compensation, having to reburn, or what? The items I just mentioned have nothing to do with “accuracy.”

I don’t have a recommendation on burners but what I can tell you is ‘Verbatim’ brand CD or DVD blanks are the most reliable digital discs to burn music or movies on.

I purchased a Pawtec last year. Usb and needs no piggyback power and is 100% plug and play. I’m running windows 10 and was running 8 when purchased.

This guy is pretty accurate. A bit slow, though.

I have quite a few Hi-Rez Music files (24-bit FLAC) that I can convert to 16-bit and burn to a CDR for playback as a CD.

In addition, I have 16-bit WAV files made directly from raw, studio master tapes and want to burn to 16-bit CDs.

In researching, only speed is mentioned as an attribute - not the ultimate accuracy of the burn.

What design is most accurate?
Slot
Tray
Clam shell

You should be asking about archival quality DVDs. They are gold, not silver, and several bucks PER DISK.

Go to a site that is involved with archiving documents (such as legal documents) to disk. They should be able to recommend media brands and burner brands.

Thanks.

I use Taiyo Yuden (gold & silver) - same brand my friend who is a Mastering Engineer in LA music industry uses and recommends as THE most accurate disk.

Just to add to OP 's post

Online Convert

I use this to convert almost any file to another. Very fast.

Here is a site that specializes in providing archive media. It should give you a start.

12 or so years myself, not counting TV engineering land and that’s a new one to me

It seemed that slower burning speed had the least problems early on in burners.

I have a Blu Ray internal burner that turns out rather fast. O7t of several spindles, I might wind up with one dud.

MAM-O is not the same quality as it used to be.

I still have a small supply of the old Gold MAM-O....but Taiyo Yuden is superior to current production MAM-O.

There is absolutely no difference in their accuracy.

You have to realize, “accuracy” is one problem these burners do not have.

They either work or they don’t work.

If you happen to come across a MadDog DVD burner for sale on Ebay or elsewhere, don't buy it. The company went out of business years ago and there is no support if you need it.

With that being said, I have one and have had no problems with it.......go figure.
