S&W Body Guard Trigger Pull

Just want some input on the S&W 38 Body Guard I purchased. It has a real stiff trigger pull- makes me always pull up to the right... and wondering what to do. i bought it last year .... do i need to send it off to get the trigger set right? forgive my ignorance, i used to own a lot of firearms before the tragic boating accident of 1999, but i have never had a trigger calibrated before..... is it supposed be be so and stiff? thanks for any help...... i'm just a helpless chick.. lol

Revolvers usually have stiff triggers.

The little S&W snubbies are known for having a stiff DA trigger pull to ensure reliable ignition. They can be lightened a little, but messing with the action may void your warranty

don’t need no stinking warranty..... just want to aim small..... miss small... well, as much as i can with a 38 snubby ;) i do love the laser sight..

Trade it on a Ruger LCR. Excellent DA trigger pull.

Ruger spent a lot of engineering time and $ getting that right.

Double action on most any handgun sucks, revolver or semi-auto. After owning several of each, have avoided them it they did not have an option for single action first shot.

I did handle a double action S&W that had been "worked" many years ago, and could believe I could come to like it. No idea what the work cost, he was just showcasing his work.

Single action revolvers are the only ones that interst me. Semi autos in the 1911 style or Glock are mey self defense preference.

i don’t know... maybe that’s my problem.... i’m comparing it to my old S&W 38 Special.... probably a 1970’s something..smooth as heck..

there seems to be no ...squeeze... with this one... ya know?

Send it back to Smith & Wesson. It seems to be a common issue.

What it is, they have a hefty spring in the rebound slide - several things should be done, polishing inside of the frame where the rebound slide rides to take the edge off the tooling marks, get the rebound slide pin flush on the side that rides on the frame - there's typically a small part of it that protrudes out that side and causes an uneven ride & response of the rebound slide in the frame over the tooling marks, and replace the rebound slide spring with a lighter one. The middle tension spring usually works best, makes sure the rebound slide moves snappy - you don't want too light of a spring there or there may not be a good positive reset, then you may have a big problem at a critical moment.

Wrong Bodyguard? Smith makes the Bodyguard semi-auto .380 and the Bodyguard revolver .38 spl.

If you were describing a Chinese knockoff or some Packistini or East Euro POS, this would be understandable.

But not from the USA foremost purveyor of double action revolvers! Smooth out the machining marks?

Well, they don't have to be a "machinist", per se, but someone who is definitely familiar and competent with S&Ws. The spring change is the easy part, but the other work - less is more when it comes to that and some people get carried away, mess up tolerance, make things worse. If you can network around and find someone in your area who has the proper aptitude and a fine touch, they could get it done. And let me tell you, it makes them sweeeeet to shoot when it's done.

hmm..... you are right.

i needed a revolver for my purse/holster/truck that i could beat up and get dirty and still count on.... Semi’s are ok in the bedside drawer or when i am good about cleaning them ...... but for just constant abuse i want a revolver...

Take it to a competent gunsmith and they can perform a "trigger job" on your Bodyguard .38.
