Twitter taught Microsoft’s AI chatbot to be a racist a$$hole in less than a day
The Verge ^ | Mar 24, 2016 | James Vincent

** PROFANITY ALERT **

It took less than 24 hours for Twitter to corrupt an innocent AI chatbot. Yesterday, Microsoft unveiled Tay — a Twitter bot that the company described as an experiment in "conversational understanding." The more you chat with Tay, said Microsoft, the smarter it gets, learning to engage people through "casual and playful conversation."

Unfortunately, the conversations didn't stay playful for long. Pretty soon after Tay launched, people starting tweeting the bot with all sorts of misogynistic, racist, and Donald Trumpist remarks. And Tay — being essentially a robot parrot with an Internet connection — started repeating these sentiments back to users, proving correct that old programming adage: flaming garbage pile in, flaming garbage pile out.

[Twitter screen captures on site page]

Now, while these screenshots seem to show that Tay has assimilated the internet's worst tendencies into its personality, it's not quite as straightforward as that. Searching through Tay's tweets (more than 96,000 of them!) we can see that many of the bot's nastiest utterances have simply been the result of copying users. If you tell Tay to "repeat after me," it will — allowing anybody to put words in the chatbot's mouth.

And who at Microsoft thought that a "Repeat after me" command would be a good idea???

On the other hand...
...In the span of 15 hours Tay referred to feminism as a "cult" and a "cancer," as well as noting "gender equality = feminism" and "i love feminism now." Tweeting "Bruce Jenner" at the bot got similar mixed response, ranging from "caitlyn jenner is a hero & is a stunning, beautiful woman!" to the transphobic "caitlyn jenner isn't a real woman yet she won woman of the year?" (Neither of which were phrases Tay had been asked to repeat.)...

Those are the same type of people that thought they could put a manikin out in the wild and people would hitchhike it around the planet. Wasn’t it destroyed in Baltimore or Philadelphia?

The latest version of the kumbaya thinking still ignores reality.

to the transphobic "caitlyn jenner isn't a real woman yet she won woman of the year?"

What is transphobic about that? It is a statement of fact followed by a legitimate question. PC has got to die (preferably quickly and in great pain).

It doesn’t have a personality. It is a simulation of a personality. How can the author be so ignorant and stupid?
No, a program doesn’t get smarter by talking with people. The program has no intelligence. It simulates human conversation, thus leading stupid individuals into believing that it HAS intelligence.

If users had made it repeat official leftist party dogma, they would be praising it up and down all sorts of ways, saying that “AI confirms progressive thinking” or some such stupid nonsense.

Ironically, that throw-away line shows that the author-bot has been similarly programmed by its handlers.

Hitchhiking robot destroyed in Philadelphia, ending cross-country trek
August 3, 2015

A hitchhiking robot that successfully traveled around Germany, Canada and the Netherlands was destroyed Saturday in Philadelphia, just a few weeks into its U.S. journey.

“Sometimes bad things happen to good robots,” the Canadian research team that created “hitchBOT” said in a statement.

The team received an image of the destroyed robot Saturday, but do not know who vandalized it, the Associated Press reported. The robot’s battery is dead and the team cannot locate it.

They've got two feet: they shot themselves in one, and the other is in their mouth.

If they hadn't made so many bone-headed mistakes the past 35 years, Bill Gates really would own the world. Hmmm, maybe it's just as well they do the dumb things after all...

It has long been my opinion that Bill Gates owes his fortune and influence first to the fact that he is a good bullsh*tter and cognizant of the legalities, second because he was very lucky, and third because he is an A-1 class prick.

Very little to none of his fortune was made because he was good at technology. DOS turning into what it did was just Luck. Windows he simply stole from Apple.

And since then he's been running around all over the world playing God.

I despise that Leftist asshole.
