Is it time for a Trump-Cruz alliance? (vanity)

Posted on 02/23/2016 11:11:12 AM PST by Leaning Right

By alliance I mean a joint announcement that Trump and Cruz are now running as a team, or perhaps a joint announcement committing Trump to pick Cruz as a Supreme Court justice.

I bring this up because the elites are starting to coalesce around Rubio (aka Romney II). And as we all know, nominating Romney II will just get us Clinton II.

I’d like to see Ted for SCOTUS.

****************

Ted isn’t one to stay in any position very long. Not sure a lifetime appt to the SCOTUS is for Edward.
Of course he could resign I guess after a few years and chase his next dream.

I don’t think there’s much incentive for Trump to do this, at this point.

Also, as the days have gone by I keep wondering why there is this “need” for Ted Cruz to “go” somewhere. He’s a first term Senator. Congress is a huge problem.

Because of the way his campaign has gone, I don’t think he’s ready for higher office yet. If Ted Cruz really wants to help the country, perhaps he should stick around in his current job and prove his chops more. Both he and Rubio missed a ton of votes in the Senate in 2015, Cruz something like 24%, second only to Rubio.

They both seem like they’re taking on a sense of entitlement WAY earlier than would even be warranted if “entitlement” were a good enough reason to run for President (it isn’t).

I think that for now Ted Cruz should stay where he is and help fix the mess by working as a reformer in Congress. Isn’t that what he promised the voters of Texas?

So, let's get this straight. Cruz drafted off Trump as long as he can. Then, at some strategic time probably agreed to by those darn campaign consultants, he broke free. Figured on being overwhelming in South Carolina. Ran nasty against Trump and others. Got Rubio, Carson, and Trump to agree on something...that Cruz lies and runs a dirty campaign.

Cruz's campaign is in shambles. He's across the spectrum identified by his nasty campaign. And NOW Trump and Cruz should team up.

Why, so Cruz can draft off of him again? I can't imagine that Trump is a man who can be played twice at the same game.

What am I missing here?

On the other hand, Cruz would be rid of a certain ball and chain known as Beck...

Tell Trump to keep his big mouth shut as long as well as all his Trumpbots on this forum..then maybe he’d have a chance...

I’m having a lot of trouble thinking of Ted as someone I could ever trust. And I used to support the guy and even sent him money twice before I wised up.

True. That alliance hasn’t worked out as well as I believed Cruz had hoped.

I have been trying to make the point trough-out the month.

Here is my argument Support For Trump & Cruz

We clearly need the supporters of each to work together. This daily mud slinging fight is terribly destructive to Conservative hopes.

I won't disagree with any of your post, but what you're missing IMHO is the Rubio factor. Many voters see both Trump and Cruz as anti-establishment. Those voters split their votes between the two men, and GOPe hack Rubio squeaks in.

We've scenarios like that play out many times before.

The problem is that they’ve now had several weeks of calling each other names, etc. Yes, they could bury the hatchet, but some things cannot credibly be walked back.

I’d nonetheless love a mutual arrangement where Cruz becomes the A.G., with an option (his) to be nominated to the Supreme Court. He’d serve this country well in those positions...especially if he helped to jail Clinton and some on the Obama team for corruption and/or treason.

Trump could certainly use a Cruz endorsement before long (assuming that Cruz was going to drop out), because that would ensure a unified party going into the elections. We will need EVERY vote possible to beat the corrupt Dems and their legions of foreign and zombie voters.

While Cruz would indeed make a great justice, I think if DT becomes President, Cruz will be needed in the senate to point out the deals DT makes outside the realm of the constitution.

You make a number of lucid, valid points.

You have no place in the Trump/Cruz debate.

No. Cruz’ ratio of wisdom to book-learnin’ is too low. He really appears to be a danger to himself and others at this point. Why would Trump want to sign on with someone who is too clever by half?

Never say never, I suppose. It’s possible. But why? Trump is certain to get nearly all his supporters when he drops out.

Hell no!

Cruz will not add anything to the ticket and will probably drive swing voters away.

That's just some of the collateral damage of Trump's win-at-all-costs campaign. He determined that the best way to beat Cruz was to relentlessly brand him as a liar. Doesn't matter to him that he has done untold damage to the credibility of one of the strongest conservatives in the Senate.

Donald Trump is a pragmatist. He also seems to have very little emotional attachment to his previous history (opinions, associations, etc.) I believe he would bury the hatchet and let bygones be bygones in a heartbeat if doing so would be pragmatic.

“that Cruz lies and runs a dirty campaign.”

And, of course, DT is squeaky clean, right?

No that ship has sailed for Cruz. He’s running numero tres in most polls that means the horse has died but Cruz just has not gotten off yet. He does nothing for Trump. When he goes down a lot of his supporters will gravitate to Trump anyway. All Trump has to do is wait for it.
