Cruz’s Birthplace Debated: Here’s Where Most US Presidents Were Born

It's no surprise that all 44 presidents were born on U.S. soil: The requirement for a president to be a "natural born citizen" is enshrined in the U.S. Constitution. The current debate about what that means stems from the fact that there's no document trail to reveal what, exactly, the Constitution writers meant by that statement.

Whatever your opinion may be, it is true that all of the presidents to date have been born in one of the 50 U.S. states. Live Science took a look at where the presidents were born. While the tally may have a lot to do with chance, the overall trends do reflect changes in the population, politics and attitudes of Americans over the years. “he was natural born by virtue of being born into the allegiance of the United States.”

Wrong, Chester Arthur was born into the permanent allegiance of the United Kingdom of Great Britain, and his allegiance to the United States was a temporary allegiance due to the United States having no naturalization law permitting the acquisition of U.S. citizenship by a child born in the United States with foreign parents. The allegiance was the temporary allegiance owed by any alien in amity resident or visiting the United States.

Who changed the law? I was born in Germany, of two US citizen parents. I am not nor will ever be natural born. Only two US citizen parents birthing a child on US soil is natural born. I was born a citizen but NOT a natural born citizen. I do NOT have a born in the USA birth certificate.

I knew that would be mentioned. Article II definitely made an exception for them. they were Born as natural born British subjects but on July 4th, 1776, they became natural born American citizens. Their status was transferred. There’s a really good court ruling that touches on this transfer of citizenship but I don’t have it immediately handy.

Citizens are either natural-born or naturalized. One who is born in the United States or under its jurisdiction is a natural-born citizen without reference to the nationality of his parents. Their presence here constitutes a temporary allegiance, sufficient to make a child a citizen.

Who changed the law?

Obama first and then Ted Cruz. It seems like a pattern of usurpation to me.

Sorry, my first sentence should have been ‘not born in’.

Rubio is an anchor baby. But his parents were NOT US citizens when he was born in the US. Rubio is a US citizen, but NOT a natural born citizen. Republicans apparently do not like Constitutional requirements anymore than the liberals. But liberals make no bones about what they think of the Constitution. Republicans are the hypocrites.

Yes, he said that and he is dead wrong. He was neither the first to make such claims, and he is certainly not the last to do so. In fact, it is physically impossible for such a person to be a natural born citizen. The truth of that statement are the past and the present naturalization laws. No doubt you will dispute that, but try answering some questions.

Step 1. A natural born citizen cannot be naturalized as a naturalized citizen, because a natural born citizen is already a citizen and you can only naturalize a person who is an alien. True or False?

So, in a hypothetical race between Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz, which candidate, if either, do you believe would be a NBC and, thus, eligible to be POTUS? The child born of one citizen parent in a foreign country, or the child born of no citizen parents but on US soil? and, is it just me, or does this seem like a Pandora’s box?

The first eight of nine presidents were born under British Rule, foreign influence. It was until after 1845 or so we started to have President born in United States.

President not born in the United States.

George Washington
John Adams
Thomas Jefferson
James Madison
James Monroe
John Quincy Adams
Andrew Jackson
Andrew Jackson
William Henry Harrison

A lot of smart, reasonable people honestly believe that history suggests that the Founding Fathers used the term “natural born” as an expansive definition of citizenship, that is, as a way to make certain that people born overseas to American citizens would have the full rights of other American citizens.

It is estimated that there has been hundreds of thousands of children born aboard to military and support personal over the last 44 years. We should not trust these scum? If only they were born in America so we can ensure their loyalty.

At this moment there are over 150,000 military personal alone deployed. Thousands live with their families and have babies. Not only military but business leaders, doctors, students studying abroad, and countless loyal Americans might have a child overseas while ministering, studying, working, curing disease, making new discoveries, and traveling. I suppose none of these children are loyal to the United States? Give me the child of someone that lived off the government tit their whole life. The child of a crack head over someone raised by an American saving lives overseas.

When Cruz’s electors are before the Congress for the challenge to their qualifications because of Cruz’s ineligibility, don’t expect Paul Ryan to support him.

Neither are eligible. Rubio has what Trump forced the Obama crew to produce, a born in the USA birth certificate. Problem Cruz has, he has no standing to challenge Rubio. Rubio could just as easily challenge Cruz. So I expect we probably will have two ineligible Hispanic Cubans on the GOP ballot come November.

you know whiskey, all I know is that for 227 years, every US President has been born on US soil but now suddenly, that may change and I'm being told to just move along because there's nothing to see here.

I also know that there are many legal opinions that agree that a NBC is someone born on US soil or otherwise into the allegiance of the US.

I agree that a NBC can not be produced by an act of naturalization created by congress and, if you agree with that as well, than you must agree that congress has no authority to define the term Natural Born Citizen in the first place.

It isn’t common sense, it’s just obfuscation and/or ignorance.

May I presume that you were born in Germany because one of you parents were stationed there as either an active duty military service member or as working for a US contractor at the time of your birth?

If so, then your statement is ridiculous. Why would any US service member or diplomate who is married and has a spouse living with them while on assignment, take that assignment if that might mean that their child wouldn't be a full natural born citizen if born in a foreign country while on assignment.

If you were born in a German hospital, then of course you would have a German issued certificate of a "live birth". That does not convey citizenship however, and if you parents registered your birth with the US Consulate, which I imagine they did unless they were idiots, then your birth and "natural born" citizenship is no different of that of one who was born on US "soil".

All persons born in the allegiance of the king are natural-born subjects, and all persons born in the allegiance of the United States are natural-born citizens. Birth and allegiance go together. Such is the rule of the common law, and it is the common law of this country, as well as of England.

Justice Swayne, United States v. Rhodes, 1 Abbott, US 28 (Cir. Ct. Ky 1866)

Born into the allegiance is the concept you should familiarize yourself with here. The children of soldiers are born into full allegiance of the nation and their parents are in a foreign land in the service of their nation and have not surrendered their allegiance in the least. Such a child is clearly a NBC in accordance with the common law understanding of natural born citizenship.

It has not one thing to do with loyalty. If US citizen parents want their child to be a natural born US citizen then have them on US soil. It is akin to a birthright.

Oh, I am not a lawyer. I just know what natural born means and I have known that I am not natural born before Cruz took his first breath on Canadian soil. And Cruz knows he is not a natural born citizen of the US. He is playing fast and loose with the Constitution for self serving purposes.

And nobody needs a judge or congress to decide, it is not rocket science.
