Government or no one in it is going to save our souls. But a godly man could save our country. We have things exactly backward. I want a President who is always conscious of the fact that there is someone he is accountable to other than voters

Never thought I’d see the day on FR when an anti-Christian vanity thread was allowed to stand.

Progress! Forward!

**** Which of all the candidates in both parties would you trust select the best nominees to the Supreme Court? ****

After John Roberts with Obamacare, not Ted Cruz. He was a big supporter of John Roberts.

Your arguments don't match with your tagline.

Being born in Canada does not necessarily mean you are born outside of the allegiance of the US.

Virtually every conservative thought very highly of John Roberts when he was nominated.

Were you prescient enough to warn conservatives? Any proof would make you more credible.

And you think that Trump, with his talk of working with the Democrats, with his claiming to work successfully with Pelosi and Reid, with his history of donating to Democrats, would nominate an actual conservative?

And personally I believe he would better serve this nation longer as a Supreme Court Justice ... all things considered ... we need to concentrate on kicking OUT the D's and electing/re-electing (the few) R's that will stand for a Constitutional America

We need a veto proof Senate ... to keep the dictator in line ... if you will

This is in no way, Anti Christian

This is a discussion of how effective a Christian only (which was not the basis for the original post, yet it is being interpreted as such ... (which, BTW, are not my words, but words that came down on my FB page) and I thought worthy of contemplation, and debate

And we're doing beautifully, imo

And why SHOULDN'T an intelligent debate stand ?

If you claim to be a Christian and have never questioned whether you were saved or not ... I'd revisit your salvation experience

God asks us to "Come, let us reason together ..." ... use the brains he gave us

The Bereans discussed these things daily

Do you think everybody always said "Amen" to every word ?

Trump isn't even hinting at amnesty

We're a long way from a smaller more efficient government ... go visit the DMV

To me it all comes down to:

I honestly don't believe we have the time to make any corrections by all the standard acceptable methods .. politics

Exactly.   Desperate times call for desperate measures.

The current president is doing everything in his power to bring America down:

It's time to take our country back!   We need an executive -- someone who both loves the country and has run large organizations before and delivered results.

I'm sorry.   The Cuban freshmen senators (Rubio and Cruz) talk a good game, but they do not have the experience!   They are creatures of politics, not captains of industry, job creation, and good decision making.

We need street smarts so we can create jobs and restore the proper civil society.   What do these guys know about life in the real economy?   They have never held real jobs.   These guys are just Magnificent Office Seekers -- young and ambitious lawyers just like Zero.

You can appreciate the good work Cruz has done to fight the Establishment and still recognize that he's not ready to be president.   In fact, in recent weeks we've seen plenty of examples of his poor judgement.

If Cruz and Rubio were real patriots, they would step aside recognizing that Trump is by far the better man for the job.   But no, they don't think like that.   They say, I've been in the Senate two years so that qualifies me to run the country!   The hubris of these guys is truly astonishing and troubling.

And in the end, they are puppets of the deep pocket donors who created them.   Half of what they promise us today will not be done.   They will make decisions that are wrong for America, but perfect for the greedy donors tugging on those invisible strings.

They say, I've been in the Senate two years so that qualifies me to run the country!

While Trump says "I've NEVER been in government so that qualifies me to run the most powerful country on Earth!"

The hubris of these guys is truly astonishing and troubling.

As is Trump's.

Trump is exactly the Perot; a person who can promise anything because they don’t have a voting record on anything.

Rhetoric is more important to the conservative Christian base than anything

I am part of the conservative Christian base and I can see through BS rhetoric and dismiss it as such.

You sentence is demonstrably false.

Pretty good debate we got goin' here, eh ?

My concern is the continuation of the original idea of The United States

It IS, after all .. an idea

And as so succinctly articulated in BEN HUR ...

"How do you fight an idea ?"

"With another idea"

What do you think the government indoctrination centers have been doing the last 60 years ...

We call them "our kids" ... but, they grew up a long time ago and they were pumped full of "ideas" that went against OUR teachings

I have three out of five kids not in church because the world was more glamorous and sin is fun!

And THAT story is re-told all OVER the USA

Political understanding is part of the degenerative programming .. now, at LEAST two generations deep .. they have experienced adulthood and they are now putting THEIR kids (our grand babies) into the same institution that didn't give them the confidence and tools to feel they could teach their own children .... !!!

Job security

BTW .. I just got re-elected to 4 years on the school board and I start fires ... big conflagrations, and I worked with another FReeper type to get a successful write in for 4 years ...

OUR turn for incrementalism

I'm not in a vacuum

Our founders never envisioned a political class

We were supposed to a nation run by ordinary people for a couple of years and go home

George Washington was SUCH a perfect example of "No, I will not be a king and No, I won't stay here forever"

I agree ... but a hungry tired man wants to get things done, not make friends
