THIS Conversation Needs To Be Started and Continued

Ted Cruz is proof that evangelicals will swarm to the candidate that says moderately correct religious stuff and completely ignore the various ways in which the candidate will either expand the state or otherwise keep the status quo. Rhetoric is more important to the conservative Christian base than anything, and said rhetoric is the very thing that blinds them to the statist trends of the GOP.

your arguing like a democrat ... you have your own word associations cleverly put together to skew the conversation and drift the matter to another facet

I am not casting about ... raising a valid point, nor am I looking to "blame" ANYone ... except maybe myself and all the rest of the believers in America that did not stop the obvious evil assaulting our nation .... we "prayed about it"

Your statement that I am not thinking clearly is akin to the losing socialist banter.

I'm willing to stand and state my case and if someone can convince me the direction of my thought process is wrong ... I am man enough to admit it

NH will be telling for BOTH Trump and Cruz ... it ain't nowhere NEAR evangelical ... and Rubio speaks to the educated lefty

God made Ted Cruz be born in Canada. God made Ted Cruz ineligible to be POTUS.

Most of your post is untrue and if you have any military ties you would appreciate the 6 million raised for veterans.my son does. It is about time someone stood up and refused to be bullied by the media. You call it fear I call it standing up to not be treated as GWBush accepted for 8 years. Trump is not near perfect, but then only Christ is.

Cruz did some truly unChristian things with his shame mail and lie about Carson. But is he a bad person? No, but the actions were and prove he is just a man who works to be Christian like all the others not the greatest Christian alive as some here seem to purport. So it is no worse for some to prefer another candidate than for you to prefer him.

Are you suggesting we do nothing about illegal infiltration ?
What's the social and economical impact with THAT ?

I would trust (at THIS point in our history) .. the proponent of free enterprise to select the least intrusive justices to American wealth building

Politicians make laws ... and we don't need no more steenking laws

I wonder if Trump is on the platform carrying ?

I don't think there is enough righteous voting power in America for an idealistic, Christian man

I believe Ted is born again ... I also believe he's had years of conditioning to calm THAT voice so that he "might save some" .. i.e. be a successful politician ... First Corinthians 9:19 - 23

I don't think Trump will be a dictatorial President and I also believe HE has been conditioned to get his way, not as a dictator, but as a negotiator... back in the 80's Ronald Reagan was called Ronald Ray Guns ... by the lefties ... because that's how they perceived his stand on SDI/Cold War .... but that was just an opinion put out by the enemies of America

Trumps personality is not dictatorial ... Confident ... but not dictatorial

Our founders had a Christian base to choose from and work with and had every reason to believe God loving and fearing Americans would teach and rear their children to be Christian and good citizens

Open your eyes ... the kids out of HS are socialists and not voting

You kicked the hornets' nest with this post, but I've been thinking some of the same things with regard to Iowa in particular for a long time. Because the PTB continue to use Iowa as a means to tweak their political machines, I get to see the exploitation of religious feeling by a whole bunch of politicians. In the Democrat case, it can be the religion - and I use the term without reservation - of public schools, or the religion of labor unions, or the religion of Marx, etc; in the case of the GOP, it invariably revolves around "evangelicals" as Iowa's mainstream protestants have increasingly turned to the quasi-religions of the left.

Something that baffled me for a long time isn't specific to Ted Cruz, but rather the broader problem: the tendency for my co-religionists to coalesce around individuals to the point where they go off the rails. A couple of years ago I had someone seriously threaten me because I refused to admit that Mike Huckabee was the only man who could save the world. Over the years, there have been other politicians who have been somehow designated to be the next man to lead us to the promised land (beginning the trek in Iowa). Yeah, it's the rhetoric. Each election there seems to a certain influential group of Iowans who determine that someone has said (said, not necessarily done or believed) the right things, and the memes become the means.

I get laughed at enough by people for my faith - no surprise, as Jesus said it would go with the territory - but (almost) every four years I get to stand here and watch my neighbors buy into the latest Great Christian Hope, beating the rest of us over the head with him. "Christian" forbearance and love for one another go out the window pretty quickly, and talk about logs in the eye of anyone who disagrees comes easy. Well, no man is perfect. Not me, not anyone on FR, not Donald Trump, not Hillary Clinton and not even Ted Cruz. Does God bring forth men and women for his own ends? Yes. Obvious ones and improbable ones. I don't presume to know who they are, and I don't presume that anyone else on this board has gotten word from the top either.

So if people think Donald Trump will stop the rot, I can understand that. Ted Cruz? I can understand that too. I happen to think there are better men than either for the task- they aren't running in this election, but I am still allowed an opinion on it.

I'm pretty immune to the rhetoric that you are talking about, but - to my embarrassment - I wasn't so proof against it when I was less strong in my faith. I was looking for a man to save my sorry self and my overvalued stuff, rather than looking to Him.

Mr. niteowl77.

Ted Cruz is the worlds formost expert on the constitution, he also has suuch high ethical standards that if his eligibility were an issue, he would not have run. Call people all the names you want. Most of us gave that up in the fifth grade.

And you think our country's fate relies on man?

You claim to be a Christian, yet ignore God's history with nations? He raises them up. He topples them. It's not up to us. It *is* up to us to vote for righteousness. To vote for the Right man.

Trumps personality is not dictatorial ... Confident ... but not dictatorial

Trump's personality is very much dictatorial. That is what makes him a very good businessman. Even dictators must make deals to get people to go along with their plans, but in the end, they are still dictators.

What I was questioning was the unqualified plea to get something done. I am totally opposed to illegal immigration and amnesty, but if getting something done means amnesty or other concessions I would settle for no action by Congress with the president strictly enforcing existing laws.

"Politicians make laws ... and we don't need no more steenking laws". But you were pleading to get something done which in our country means politicians must act.

I don't understand what you attempting to convey in regard to your specific reference to Trump.

I am first and most of all a devout follower of smaller and less intrusive government in both social and economic matters.

We all seem to be missing the statement made over and over during the Republican debates that "ANY ONE OF THESE MEN AND WOMEN WOULD BE BETTER THAN ... ETC"

I like your language and appreciate the hornet's nest comment

We NEED to kick things up a bit

I honestly feel like we are in a gun battle for America and the outcome will be decided in the next few minutes /// (illustration)

It is ideological purity that is being played here. Is it a strategy to divide us so the candidates with the best ability to save America get picked off one by one. What is most incredible is this purity test gets applied to thinking years ago and to things that don’t exist. The candidate with the greatest ideological purity today may have said something in the past. It is that digging to expose that flaw to weaken support. In the world of politics, that digging works.

A candidate may pass the purity test but not have the voter appeal to win the Presidency. It may be a superficial flaw like a whiny voice or being too short. The voters are fickle.

And there’s ideology. Ideology must be presented in a way that appeals to people’s pragmatic sense of values. To present it as some kind of pie-in-the-sky idealism turns people off if they don’t get the pragmatic principles that justify the ideology. The Conservative that best articulates conservative principles that appeals to the pragmatic values of the electorate wins. We need to analyze which candidate can best make that connection with the voter. If we are so consumed with ideology that we fail to support the candidate with the best talent, we let good talent go to waste.

What promises from Cruz trouble you? What is your made up term shamegate referring to? I do know that CNN was the first to report on Carson. I like Carson but this is a much ado about nothing and reeks of ginning up a fake issue. Kind of like “Do you still beat your wife”? Constant badgering, I haven’t gotten a request but I get regular emails from Carson and Fiorina. Drink some coffee or take a nap and step back from the passion of the election. Cruz is not the problem of our party.

If God truly wanted Ted Cruz to be POTUS, he should have made him a Natural Born Citizen of the United States instead of Canada. Oathbreaker.

What promises from Cruz trouble you?

That he is a religiously oriented conservative not beholden to deep pocket donors. Ted and Heidi have bank connections and the campaign now has a lot of influence from PACs and deep-pocket donors. I haven't heard anything that convinces me he isn't a pro-H1B worker globalist on the economy.

"ShameGate" is of course the shaming letter, looking official, to get people out to vote. If a candidate put my name on a campaign solicitation that went to my neighbors, whether it is public information or not, I'd complain and never vote for that person. I'm wondering why those with religious orientation weren't more turned off about that. It's about privacy and manipulation.

Dr. Carson's issue is not fake. No way should that info have been used without verification of its accuracy.

We disagree on something real fundamental here, it's about our deep seated values, so there's really no point in discussing it.
