Hillary Clinton agrees patents be suspended until corporations pay their taxes

QUESTION: We have major corporations in this country--GE, Apple, many others-- that are salting money away offshore. Can't we use their patents as leverage to make them pay their taxes?

HILLARY CLINTON: Yes.

QUESTION: Is that possible?

HILLARY CLINTON: Yes, we can and we will. You know--

QUESTION: We should suspend their patents until they pay their taxes.

HILLARY CLINTON: You are right. You know, American companies have, I think, a couple trillion dollars stashed overseas. Now technically it's on their books, but they park it somewhere they don't want to pay their taxes. And I think we have to reform our whole tax code because the way it is working now it is driving companies away, and its driving companies to engage in all these really gimmicky tax games that they are playing. And we have to get a fair, consistent tax program so that corporations pay their fair share just like the wealthy, and that's what I'm going to try and do.

.............There, in February 1977, Rodham joined the venerable Rose Law Firm, a bastion of Arkansan political and economic influence.[75] She specialized in patent infringement and intellectual property law[37] while also working pro bono in child advocacy;[76] she rarely performed litigation work in court.[77]

Clearly this was just a random question from the audience off the street.

And if a company that develops a cure for cancer pill owes back taxes and wants to earn money to pay them off? Shall they stop production until the cure is lost yet the ‘taxes’ are paid?

Pandering, relativism from someone who was “dead broke” after leaving the WH but now is a billionaire.

” I think, a couple trillion dollars stashed overseas”

I don’t know if this is true or not but maybe with better tax policy, it would not be parked there.

Moreover, a flat tax that is neither regressive nor progressive is fair and consistent. These progressives are such ideological scum....

Corporations don't pay taxes.

Don't be intentionally obtuse. You know what they're talking about here.

And just how do you ‘suspend’ one’s patent?

Not being obtuse, simply pointing out the fallicy that Ms. Clinton resides within. She is proposing that corporations be punished for using the law to shelter their profits against unlawful taxation. This ultimately would trickle down to their employees and to the consumer.

Were the tax laws more simple, equitable, sustainable, then I am certain the current “overseas” example would be eliminated. I am an ardent supporter of the Fair Tax as I believe useage is a better indicator of national fiscal health than income tax, which is oppressive/punitive.

Just one more way she expects to take control of the means of production. She is a marxist.

Sounds like Hillary has discovered a great way to complete the American transformation started under Obama. suspending patents, should drive R&D overseas along with the parent company. Then we will have no economic base and become a the third world country that Democrats want.

Why not reform the tax system so companies aren’t incentivized to park their money overseas?

One step closer to Directive 10-289 from "Atlas Shrugged", which states:

Point Three. All patents and copyrights, pertaining to any devices, inventions, formulas, processes and works of any nature whatsoever, shall be turned over to the nation as a patriotic emergency gift by means of Gift Certificates to be signed voluntarily by the owners of all such patents and copyrights. The Unification Board shall then license the use of such patents and copyrights to all applicants, equally and without discrimination, for the purpose of eliminating monopolistic practices, discarding obsolete products and making the best available to the whole nation. No trademarks, brand names or copyrighted titles shall be used. Every formerly patented product shall be known by a new name and sold by all manufacturers under the same name, such name to be selected by the Unification Board. All private trademarks and brand names are hereby abolished.

It wouldn’t work because most important patents are patented in multiple countries, so the company would still have control if the IP through international treaties.
