Am I proud to call Oregon my home? You're damn right I am. Do we have problems here? Of course we do, everywhere has problems. But the thing about Oregon is, if you've ever lived here you can probably agree Oregon is truly is a special place to live, and our problems are really very minimal compared to so many other places you could live.

I couldn't figure out how to copy any pics to post in the thread (I know how to post pics to FR - just couldn't make it happen). These are beautiful, & if you click on the photographer's name above each picture, there are more to see. Enjoy...

Yep. Our legislatures are beginning a short session next week & there are at least 5 bills initiating carbon credit schemes & 2 that are degrading our 2nd Amendment Rights. B*st*rds!

"Payne claimed all he wanted was a constitutional system of government, but when pushed he could name very few federal agencies that would remain in his vision of the United States."

What, are we supposed to perceive this as contradictory?

Terrific photos. I would think a ‘Sights of Oregon’ book would sell well in gift shops and bookstores in Oregon. Calendars would sell well nationally.

My sister’s books did very well.

Well, you left out Lake Wallowa,
and forgot to mention how the politics have screwed up the state.

I lived in Oregon in the mid 60’s, early 70’s.

There was a actually a pop song on the radio, called I think, I live in Oregon, that extolled the greatness of the State.

Back then it was still a conservative State and they hated the fact Californians were moving there in high numbers.

I’ve only been up to Wallowa once in all my 41 years in the state. Beautiful country up there!

I lived in Oregon for some years in Bandon after retirement, in the middle of a forest, but still could hear the ocean pound on the beach at high tide. It was lovely, inexpensive, but it could rain like nobody’s business. Lots of blackberries everywhere all summer, lots of fishing and crab fishing off the dock, and if you were Indian, all the salmon you could catch, no sales tax, and we got free TV on our 10’ dish which picked up programming from Canada...loved those British shows. Our medical plan in California made it mandatory we return, still miss the place..

I went to Boy Scout camp there in the 60’s.

I don’t think it’s there anymore.

Walter Brenan (The Real McCoy’s) had a home on the lake.

My cousin and his fiancee lived in Oregon. One night he left a bar, called to say he was on his way home and went off on his motorcycle. When he failed to return home his fiancee called the police. They did a ride along his route and, because he wasn’t a cute little kid or a boy scout, told the lady to file a missing persons report and that was the end of it. His relatives flew in from around the country and organized a walk along his route. They found his body where his bike had left the road. Needless to say none of us are impressed with the state other than to say that the beautiful woods are good at making bodies hard to spot.

Yeah, I have good memories of Oregon too.

I lived in Tigard, just a few miles from the city of Portland.

Every year they had a Rose Parade and Naval ships would come in on the river and we could go aboard and tour them.

I miss the Blackberries that seem to grow everywhere, but I do not miss the rain and never ending cloudy weather!

They’re going to propose a 2.5% gross tax on all corporation revenue to fund the unions - PERS actually.

Like that will be good for the economy. /s

Gorgeous state the politics will be driving me out.

That exact thing happened to a young man we met through relatives. He worked a late shift, headed for home & never got there. The police didn’t do much. Family & friends finally found where his car went off the road & into a river. The body has never been recovered.

Yes, there are lots of things wrong in this state - mostly to do with the gov’t. The scenery makes up for some of it. And I like rain. ;-)
