I believe it was a coco bar.

I remember my early years when my step-father was a private in the US Army and had two kids to support (early 50’s). He would steal C-Rations and that was what we had to eat many times. Loved them.

Cigs, coffee, milk and sugar. All part of a good food group.

I had C-rats once in spring of ‘86. Ham and M-——F-——s.

It was not a pleasant experience, but I ate the crap without puking.

They were 15 years older than me at the time.

I’ll take an MRE any day. IMO.

a 70 year old cig will definitely put hair on your chest and possibly a few other places as well. LOL.

During WWII my Father sent his entire paycheck home to Mother. Of course she got an allotment for herself and their children.

Daddy was able to sell his cigarette ration for more money than he needed. The army basically provided every thing. He said it was always easy to sell them.

When they were in combat they did not have much need for money.

Around 1988 I worked at a state park for my Summer internship for my Masters Degree in recreation. One of the rangers gave me a few MREs as he was in the National Guard. He actually had a trunk full of them.

The first time I showed one to Daddy, I asked him what they were. He glanced at them and said “rations”.

Now how in the world did he know that? WWII rations could not have been that similar.

Had em just a few years earlier in NJROTC and a few years later at USNA - actually liked em. Prefer over MREs just due to the overall volume, though I understand the desire to limit the weight that MREs give you.

Had I opened the C-rat and found anything else, I might also have a found memory of them. But C-rat Ham-n-Lima Beans is more than any human should have to bear. IMHO.

If they were the only food around, the rules would be different of course.

Nicotine fits are capable of making a smoker do almost anything to get a fix.

Yes I am speaking from personal experience. Not proud of it, either.

I have successfully quit after my 23rd attempt to stop smoking. (patting self on back . . . :) )

LOL ..... I’m crying here I don’t think after eating a bunch of em I ever saw Ham and Lima Beans.... oh laughter is a good thing. Thank you FRiend. I usually ended up with some sort of pork and beans or something but it was all good after hiking all day.

What would our dad’s say though: Builds character... LOL

The Arab store down the street from me never rotates their stock. Bought a pack one day from there and thought I was smoking dried oak leaves.

You’re welcome FRiend.

That is exactly what my father told me after I mentioned it to him.

Until I saw that there was a key and a tear strip for opening the accessory pack, I was wondering who came up with the idea of putting the can opener inside the can. :=)
