Limbaugh: ‘Nationalism And Populism Have Overtaken Conservatism’ In GOP [VIDEO]
Daily Caller ^ | 1-20-2016 | CHRISTIAN DATOC

Posted on 01/20/2016 11:40:34 AM PST by Citizen Zed

Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh said Wednesday that Trump's popularity is evidence that "nationalism and populism have overtaken conservatism" in the Republican Party

"The Trump triumph - the Trump coalition - is exposing the fact that it isn't conservative orthodoxy, or conservatism or any of the hard work of the conservative elite," explained Limbaugh, "that is causing people to be conservative."

LIMBAUGH: It's something really simple... They're fed up with the modern day Democratic Party... The Republican Party establishment does not understand this. They do not know who their conservative voters are. They've over-estimated their conservatism... They're not liberals. They're not Democrat. Many of them do not want to be thought of as conservatives for a host of reasons. So somebody who comes along and is able to convey that he or she understands why they're angry and furthermore, is going to do everything to fix it, is going to own them. What's happening here is that 'nationalism' - dirty word, ooh people hate it - and 'populism' - even dirtier word. Nationalism and populism have overtaken conservatism in terms of appeal.

Populism is the result of the Establishment failing their constituents.

He’s calling Trump a Democrat without calling Trump a Democrat.

Rush Limbaugh could perform an immense service to the American Republic by simply calling Donald Trump what he is.

A Democrat.

Populism and Nationalism could have saved America decades ago, the GOP didn’t want it.

There is nothing conservative about campaigning for Barack Obama & Goldman Sachs’ TPA. Yet the Lion of Conservatism did just that.

What we have here is name it whatever you want movement taking over the corportism of the GOPe.

Look how fast the Freedom Caucus rolled over. Conservatism has been dead a long time in the GOPe and we’re just realizing it now.

The Cheap Labor Express owns plenty of “conservatives”. What exactly have they accomplished for us since Reagan???

And I’ve voted for every conservative on my ballots since 1978.

I don’t think Trump is a Democrat at all. What he is, is someone who is going to combat Terrorism, get us a wall, and add 4 Supreme Court Justices to the Court. That is why I am voting for Trump. Those 3 things are ultimately important to America right now.

Simple...Trump is conveying conservative ideas in a way that’s appealing.

Give it up. Rush threw in the towel today. He tried, but after the Palin endorsement, he knows he can’t drag Cruz across the finish line. It’s over.

Rush Limbaugh could perform an immense service to the American Republic by simply calling Donald Trump what he is.

A liberal Democrat.

Populism is the result of the Establishment failing their constituents.

Populism is the result of public schools failure to teach history and civics plus a Kardashian - celebrity driven media. The public has been dumbed down to the point that a republic nearly impossible. This form of government is only for for a moral and religious people. There is no republic without a public. Prepare to hail Donaldus Cesar. The republic is dead, long live Cesar!

There certainly are times when Nationalism needs to “Trump” Conservatism, that’s where the Uniparty has left us.

Rush spent 1 hour on a <5 minute topic. Yes Trump is a populist ie. Ross Perot. I don’t have a problem with incorporating populist rhetoric on an issue or two.

The problem with populism is that at it’s core it’s redistributionist. Rush should spend some time describing how Trump would govern after his Cross of Gold campaign.

It won’t end pretty.

There was a time when scumbags who opposed United States of America nationalism were excoriated and mocked by everyone who posted on conservative forums.

Today, not so much.

Yes! Give it whatever label you want, because all the old labels, particularly ‘conservative’ have become so watered down that they are now meaningless. George Will says he’s ‘conservative’. Paul Ryan says he’s ‘conservative’. Bill Kristol says he’s ‘conservative’.

It’s no wonder people have stopped listening to it. For crying out loud, what does it even mean anymore? I know what it means to ME, but how do I know what it really means to anyone else, including Ted Cruz?

People who say they’re voting for Ted Cruz because he’s the ‘true conservative’ are whistling past the graveyard.

One does not align themselves with Trump and remain a conservative... The DUmocrats have drifted so far left that the “center” doesn’t exist where it once did.

The Uniparty that filled the void now exist in opposition to we “extremist” conservatives who have remained where we always have.
