The defense secretary is looking to clamp down on misbehaving generals. Pentagon insiders say Petraeus could be the next general to face the consequences.
The Pentagon is considering retroactively demoting retired Gen. David Petraeus after he admitted to giving classified information to his biographer and mistress while he was still in uniform, three people with knowledge of the matter told The Daily Beast.
The decision now rests with Secretary of Defense Ash Carter, who is said to be willing to consider overruling an earlier recommendation by the Army that Petraeus not have his rank reduced. Such a demotion could cost the storied general hundreds of thousands of dollarsâand deal an additional blow to his once-pristine reputation.

A shot across the bow by Obama for any flag officer who steps out of line with this administration.
And yet Hillary is still not in jail.
Stay outta Ft. Marcy Park David. ...just saying.
Burglar got away with stuffing docs in his pants.
And lost recently, the sailors “rescued” by Iran....
Hillary should plead guilty to giving her family, her staff, her attorneys and their staff thousands of e-mails compiled while serving as Secretary of State and that she knew contained classified information. The e-mails held some of the most sensitive kinds of military and intelligence secrets, including the identities of covert officers, intelligence capabilities, quotes from high-level meetings of the National Security Council, and notes about Clinton's discussions with President Obama.
"Shots across the bow" can be fired either way.
Sometimes a "shot across the bow" by one party may be met with a "fire for effect"by the other party.
"The pen is mightier than the sword" works only when those who hold the sword are disciplined, honorable men who value the rule of law....and have not been push beyond their limit of tolerance for traitorous, narcissistic buffoons.
The man was a coward. In the end a coward.
He knew the truth about Benghazi and probably some other things, but has kept quiet about it, and probably still would in return for them not speaking out.
IOWs, I suspect that word has gotten out that Petreaus has a tell all book coming out, and he’s probably been told you go through with it then we’ll dock your pay.
I wish they would do that. He’ll make more money speaking out.
Is there any general in the ranks who is like our fighters of old? I think not.
Anybody know when Petraeus was supposed to appear before the Benghazi Committee?
I’m thinking the powers that be will decide to go easy on Patreous so they can also let Hillary Clinton off with a wrist slap.
I hope the General writes a tell all book.
The General was immoral and frivolous in handling secret data. He was punished and retired. This recent threat of further punishment smacks of overkill based upon fear.
“A four star Army General earns the military pay grade of “0-10”. The 0-10 base salary for someone with 38 cumulative years of service is $19,566.97 per month, or $234,803.64 annually. In 2010 At the peak of his Army career, Petraeus’s salary was $290,000 per year because he was serving as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Chief of Navy Operations, Commandant of the Marine Corps and Army/Air Force Chief of Staff. As a retired four star General, David Petraeus is entitled to an annual pension of $220,000 for the rest of his life. He’s also free to get a new job in retirement and therefore earn two incomes. On the other hand, if Petraeus loses his security clearance from this scandal, it may limit the types of jobs he would be able to take. Petraeus may also have cost himself the ability to join the lucrative speaking engagement circuit, which could have earned him $100,000 â $200,000 per event. At the end of the day, Petraeus’ biggest financial worry might actually lie with his marriage. If his wife files for divorce, she would be entitled to 50% of his pension for the rest of her life and half of all the other marital assets.”

When I was an enlisted E-4 in 1966, my “salary” was a whopping 168 bucks a month.....just sayin’
Petraeus still advises the obozo! What does he care about his rank if he is still able to influence the creation of the North American Union?
Remember that joke on SNL about the Navy recruiting ads? “its not just a job its $64 bucks a week” :-)
Hey things got better, by 69 they were about $200.
Exactly. The headline Pentagon May Demote David Petraeus is bs.
Since the Pentagon looked into earlier and decided not to demote, the headline should read:
Political operative appointed by O may demote Petraeus
