” I always wanted to meet Ethyl.”

Ha! My Milwaukee band in the later 70s was Methyl Ethyl and The Ketones. Methyl Ethyl was actress Amy Madigan.

Your post reminded me of the good old days, gas stations used to give away free stuff with every fill up. Some gave away free silverware, some plates, and cups and saucers. I also was given a free toy truck when my dad filled up at a Shell station. My sister filled up her Hope-Chest mostly with items dad gave her from the gas stations. She also got free glasses that came with the oatmeal and laundry detergent.

My Dad had an agri-related business for about 10 years (1966-76). His equipment used a lot of fuel (gas). His freebies were Green Stamps. He would literally get the full books of them when he filled up his equipment.

Half of the ‘new’ stuff Mom had during that era was ‘bought’ by redeeming Green Stamps.

Beware, when the price goes up it’s going to hurt. Need to check propane and if it’s down too then I need to top up.

The quality of the products using the green stamps was really good. I miss that simpler time going through the green stamp book trying to decide what to get. Dad always gave each of us the same number of stamps. It was our reward for doing our chores.

Going into Christmas I bought a ton of Amazon gift cards. I burned up my fuel perks the day for they ran out and I bought diesel for $49 cents a gallon. The clerk was surprised when the card was ran. I was too.

I’m out of the diesel business and in a gas burner again since the diesel was a loaner for a flood loss. I’m running 93 ethanol free in a 2016 Tacoma.

OUCH! Even when gas prices were at their peak, regular never reached that amount in our area. Was in Houston this afternoon and noticed their regular was about 50 cents more a gallon than what we pay in the suburbs. But they are always way more. Lots of people I know who live in the City drive to the suburbs to fill up. Some days when I have to drive in all the traffic I wish gas were a lot higher. LOL.

Similar here. I lived in Watertown, SD and in early 73 gas was just as low, right around 20 cents per gallon. It cost more to put oil in my Ford than it cost to fill the gas tank.

I worked at a Phillips 66 gas station evenings, and the boss said they were bleeding off gasoline supplies to create a shortage.
