SHTF Plan ^ | 1/8/16 | Mac Slavo

Want to build your own life back on the land, instead of keeping pace in this insane society headed for implosion?

There are lots of things that you’ll have to learn the hard way in order to go off grid.

The path is not easy, but that’s no reason not to get started, and move forward on your ultimate plan to live more independently.

This off-grid couple, at Fouch-o-matic Off Grid, had to relearn some of the basics to figure out how to live an alternative lifestyle without losing their minds, or facing impossible, labor intensive tasks.

all you freeper’s reminded me of this PBS film-

if you get a chance watch it- this guy flew into a NO mans land in Alaska- Built a cabin BY HAND! and stayed
thru the winter- tough old geezer-

“Richard Louis “Dick” Proenneke (May 4, 1916 – April 20, 2003) was an amateur naturalist who lived alone for nearly thirty years in the mountains of Alaska in a log cabin he had constructed by hand near the shore of Twin Lakes. Proenneke hunted, fished, raised and gathered his own food, and also had supplies flown in occasionally. He documented his activities in journals and on film, and also recorded valuable meteorological and natural data.[1] The journals and film were later used by others to write books and produce documentaries about his time in the wilderness.”

Wiped with Sears & Roebuck catalog pages!

I remember my Dad saying the women's underwear pages were always the last to be used.

My in laws were fairly seek sufficient, but quite like that! They grew/ raised much of their own food, lived simply and independently. Of their nine children, six were strapping boys. I think that helped a great deal. Money was always tight and they didn’t believe in welfare and God blessed them with a few acres and a unique home.

Years ago, when my kids were still at home, we had this awesome wood stove in the house we bought. I had never used wood so it was new to me. After the first fire we lit I was absolutely sold! Never used any other heat while living there, and it heated the entire house!

The stove itself had just the opening for logs and two small side downdraft holes. We learned quickly not to put more than a couple logs in as it was designed to burn hot with few logs.

There’s nothing like the heat from a wood stove in the winter IMO. The heat is so warm and cozy....comfortable doesn’t say enough....

And I TOTALLY agree with that. Live inconspicuously is my goal. Live quietly, mind your own business, be friendly when you do encounter others but don’t mix and mingle to excess. Keep to your own counsel but keep a few like-minded close friends. Every one else is just an acquaintance.

We keep to ourselves out on our hill for days at a time. We live modestly and have lots of hobbies that keep us very busy. We spend lots of time cleaning and keeping things tidy and we do it together and pray we can live this way for the rest of our years. I have the luxury of spending hours just servicing the tractor if I want to or sharpening tools or crafting something for someone. Even mowing is a pleasure when done without having to go or do something else.

It is when I go to town and try to get others to do things or depend on people I don’t know for things that I get frustrated and angry. We can only do a limited number of things without others so we keep to those things we can do ourselves for the most part. When we do need help or services we stick to the same pathways and people we know to be reliable and don’t branch out from that very much at all.

Having purchased a smart TV this year along with a Ruku, we’ve found a number of you tube channels regarding living off the grid. Becky’s Homestead is one remembered right off the bat. The shows are interesting, very informative, and there is a lot to learn. DH has been viewing a number of solar heating options, Simple, DIY alternatives. I enjoy watching them as well. Becky is a 65 yo who lives alone, raises chickens, and has her garden. Look forward to seeing more of her lifestyle as the year progresses.

if you have to poop and pee in an outhouse in the middle of winter, why live?....

That is why they invented the two seater. So no one has to die alone.

Even though newspapers are dying there are still those want ad prints like the Thrifty Knickel outside gas stations you steal in bundles for firestarter or outhouse conversations:

"Did you see this ad?"

"Yeah, it wiped me out!"
