The Twilight Zone Marathon

I'm watching the TZ marathon on SyFy. The current episode, "A Most Unusual Camera" is from 1960 and looks like it was shot on videotape. Did they do that back then? Looks like a cheesy soap opera.

My favorite episode is “A Piano in the House” where the player piano forces each who hears it to reveal their true feelings.

For example, when the cynical critic’s young wife turns on him with a vengeance as the instrument grinds out “Saber Dance”.

Right now on youtube there is a restored player piano playing that same music roll. Interesting, no?

Ziv...IIRC he produced Highway Patrol. I think it was his Lincoln in the opening and he was in it. Another FReeper mentioned that.

And I seem to recall Frederick Ziv died not all that many years ago, at about age 90 or so. He sold off to United Artists around 1961, which is how they got his library of shows. I think “Sea Hunt” and “Ripcord” were still in production at the time. Maybe “King of Diamonds” too.

“Highway Patrol” has been re-mastered, and looks great nowadays. Ditto some other Ziv shows, like “Sea Hunt,” “Bat Masterson,” “Tombstone Territory,” “Harbor Command,” and “West Point Story.” All which have been released on dvd.

Ripcord...there’s memories! Whirlybirds a Ziv production too?

I’ve enjoyed watching Highway Patrol and locating where scenes were filmed. Amazingly some of the businesses and houses are still there!

Thanks for letting me know. I didn’t see my first episode until after WWE but so far I’ve seen Darren from Bewitched and Dr. Smith from Lost in Space.

Where I am in New York City, the episode on at the moment, titled “Twenty Two” (’room for one more honey’), has as one of the actors, Jonathon Harris, Dr Smith from Lost In Space. He was in another one about a “gabby” guy at a country club who bet another guy that he could remain silent for a year.

Both of those were posted by freepers some years ago. I don’t if they did the photoshop themselves.

Actually, “Whirlybirds” was a Desilu show, so it’s almost a certainty that Paramount now owns it, like they do with most Desilu stuff.

The great thing about a lot of that 1950s made-for-syndication “filmed” series is how much they visually capture the atmosphere and landscape of their eras, due to on-location filming. Another example that is supposed to be pretty good in that respect is “Rescue 8,” with Jim Davis. I think Columbia (Sony) owns that one.

Remember the Westport CT show? That is my station and I always get off at the same year even though I often think about getting off during a different
ef

year.

I was always a little surprised the Jim Davis never attained a little more stardom earlier on in his career. He always held my attention. Clu Gulager was another one.

He even taught at a high school in one of the Chicago suburbs when he had a falling out with CBS over twilight zone. In season 4, I believe.
