If being Christian was a crime (not yet in most states at this point), Obama would have no fear.

Lack of evidence.

But the question nevertheless must be asked: Can we, the citizens of the greatest democracy on earth, elect a president who is not a Christian? And if we do, can we then evolve to the point that the president's religion isn't an issue ... isn't even worth mentioning?

The question is already "settled science". We ELECTED a Muslim for President - TWICE.

Muslim sympathizer without question. It’s still possible that he is simply an atheist.

There are corrupt Christians running things, who clearly do not live by the tenants of their beliefs. What difference does a label make when they tend to be hypocrites anyway.

I’m sorry but this is one of the more stupid articles written. According to this Author America will be “great” if it impose a quotes system on elections. If we just elect so many Hindus, so many Muslims, so many Jews, so many Zoroastrians etc we will “prove” our goodness.

The History of the USA is filled with “goodness” we have NO need to “prove” it over again toa world that does NOT live up to any where near the same standards.

How many Christians have been elected to run India? or Saudi Arabia, or Japan?

If you spend your formative years in an Indonesian Muslim madrassa, you ARE a Muslim forever.

Eventually there will be a president who is not a nominal Christian.

The writer is right that America has changed. But we need to see political candidates of various backgrounds run for office and get in the pipeline to rise up to the top level of president.

The United States of America has not had a Christian president since. President John Quincy Adams, the son of John and Abigail Adams, he served as the sixth President of the United States from 1825 to 1829.

That cartoon is funny because it is true.
Think about this, if asked what your religion is, you would not have to think about it or hesitate. He did not hesitate or stutter about his muslim faith.

In 2008, our nation broke through a barrier, electing an African-American to be president of the United States.

Look how well that turned out. Turning the presidency into an official Affirmative Action position will have disastrous consequences.

"Muslim sympathizer without question. It’s still possible that he is simply an atheist."

He is a cultural moslem and a philosophical atheist.

I agree in this sense. There are Christians who come from homes where they seldom if ever were offered the Christian narrative. I doubt that they can ever hold the same strength of feeling for church as a person who attended Sunday School from an early age. This is the same reason that the Founding Fathers included the “natural born citizen” clause in the Constitution. Technicalities notwithstanding, they wanted someone who “grew up” washed in the American culture.
