So far I’ve not been persuaded to upgrade.....to 8 or 10....so 7 it is until otherwise convinced I’m better off doing otherwise.

I agree with you.. Have 5 PC’s running 7 and have no inclination to upgrade at this point. No real reason and lots of reasons not to!

Agree... Actually, as it gets worse I keep thinking about going to Unix. I guess I’m just waiting for a more normal upgrade and easily usable system with other software out there. Not there yet, but it is getting close. When that happens, Microsoft will be out of a job.

Having finally struck gold with Windows 10, Microsoft is really pushing its latest operating system by giving it away to upgrading users for absolutely nothing.
This is the biggest non sequitur ever.

Back in the day it was easy. PDP11 with ed(1) and nroff(1), was the ticket (lol). Things sure have changed. Ten years ago we laughed when we noted that kids will not have to learn how to read analog clocks. Now, kids today will not have to learn how to drive a car.

I just bought Office XP on ebay for $19.99. I have tried for awhile to use the Office 98 but it seems way more complicated for what I need it for. In XP my hands could change stuff in charts without me even thinking about it.
Now it seems it takes me about 5 minutes to figure out how to change the scale each time! (Tough to teach an old dog new tricks!)

While Windows 10 may remove much of the effort when it comes to updates, it also has a terrible habit of resetting your computer at the worst times.
That's ALL I need to know abut W10.

Ha, that’s because Windows 10 automatically downloads updates and does its things without user intervention - means you have no control (and you can NOT change that). Wonderful thing about that, no user input...heh.

Heh, I agree that the whole sentence is ridiculous.. Windows 10 may have struck lead, but come on...geez! They can not entice me to take it for nothing!

Doc,
That would be Version 7 and glad to stay there, no support and all! Just when was the last time you actually asked for support for an operating system? Me never! Really!

How do I make it duplicate XP?
Don't have 10 and never will, but in 8.1 install VirtualBox virtual machine (free from Oracle) and download the XP blob or install it from your XP disk.

I wonder how many of the unknown, unused downloads are counted by Zeoft (how does one use the Ze,Z thingy with MS?).
I had 3 downloads of the OS 10 when I last checked (after deleting previous d/ls).
