Silicon Valley professionals are taking LSD at work to increase productivity

It seems unlikely, but that’s apparently what some Silicon Valley professionals have been doing - and reporting great results.

According to Rolling Stone, a growing number of people are experimenting with "microdoses" of psychedelics to help them work.

A microdose of LSD is around 10-15 micrograms, approximately a tenth of a "normal" dose.

...

At that dosage, Rolling Stone describes the drug's effects as "subperceptual": 'Enough, says Rick Doblin, founder and executive director of the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies, 'to feel a little bit of energy lift, a little bit of insight, but not so much that you are tripping.'"

...

Psychedelics researcher Dr James Fadiman discussed microdosing with Vice, saying: 'People do it and they’re eating better, sleeping better, they're often returning to exercise or yoga or meditation. It’s as if messages are passing through their body more easily."

LSD effacy doesn’t decline with use but the user may get less susceptible to the negative potentials

Panic attacks for example

Conversely the spacing out effect could easily increase

Someone up thread said a doc they know has taken 400 trips but still advises stay away from it

It’s been 40 years since my last of 50-100 LSD Mushroom and peyote uses and I feel the same way and constantly lecture my kids as such

Even though my own memories range from outright panic to waves of joy and self realization I have seen many burnout and have dramatic personality shifts from just ONE big trip

We had some homemade LSD from Millsaps college in 73 and it did just that to one of my buddies...the dose was off the charts ...we just hung on as it got bigger and bigger and unfolded

Who funny enough he now overseas a major IT program at a huge medical complex

It didn’t necessarily harm him but he went from loud and sardonic to quiet and reserved on a dime permanently

It for sure blasts the cobwebs out

But it can also ring the self doubt bell

It doesn’t mix well with conformity but it’s been enjoyed by traditionalists just the same

Hoffman and Disney come to mind

It’s like combat prison divorce death of a spouse etc

You can’t explain what it’s like till you’ve done it

Everything else is just subjective cliche

If I liked it I wouldn’t have quit in 77

How can this be detrimental? Look at the wildly
successful career of Hunter S. Thompson. LSD in gargantuan
quantities almost guarantees success in one's chosen field.

Orange Sunshine

Window Pane

Windowpane was scary

One of my best friends would take three little windowpane pieces of film and press them together

And tell you later

He got killed in a small plane crash at duck camp

Had I not been in a hurry to get home and had left out early that morning from Jackson to Nashville I woulda been on it

...he now overseas a major IT program at a huge medical complex

Had a college roommate who was a serious student during the week and partied hard on weekends. He went on to get his MD, taught at an Ivy League med school, and headed a major hospital and med school complex and national medical org.

I won’t be indulging - nitrous oxide was a bad trip. I don’t want to imagine what LSD would do to me.

...

I never made it past canned whipped cream.

I understand the nitrous oxide problem. I found myself laughing at Jerry Lewis movies. The horror....

I remember being given nitrous oxide by the dentist once to have a tooth pulled.

In order to convince myself it wasn't affecting me, I attempted to multiply nine by four in my head, and couldn't get the answer, I was laughing so hard...

May I suggest that Jeb! 's advisors are taking it...

oh wait, you meant Snarly Fiorina as a CEO, not a a rival to Trump for the GOP nomination.

...never mind.

In Silicon valley, we had to go through drug test before hiring. Yet to see anyone high in office. yes had seen nervous breakdown or panic attack when QA throws code back.

That's odd, normally when the project calendar goes out the window, they try to make up the time by reducing the interval left to *perform* QA, so the walk-on-water coders can procrastinate more.

I never took a bad or weak dose 73-77

Now shrooms

Being a southern boy even in winter anywhere below about 31-32 degrees north and if it hit above 70 a few days in a row they popped up and matured in 36-48 hours

We’d eat them in the field 3-5 2-4 inch fresh caps and stems and you were to the moon Alice

Super intense but unlike acid it was on the downslope easy in 5-7 hours

Moody Blues music time

Peyote I thought gave the best of all worlds but rough on the tummy

We got buttons from Tuscon legal back then

I hear Ecstasy was sorta like tripping mixed with a quaalude but I’ve seen first hand X burnouts and the brain damage is well documented

I don’t even drink now but if I had time and wifey wanted I’d smoke a little weed

I DID like that I confess but life got too crowded

My only drug today if punani

Still the best!

Oh, I know haha :D

My mom loves to day don’t ask me why, to which I always immediately reply why?

I thought the same when I was younger. I used to do a lot of drugs many years ago.

I too thought it helped me connect better, but I had it bass ackwards.

All drugs do is disconnect you from everything.

It took many many years to learn that the best way to connect to anything is by being sober.

Everything else is just a jumbled mess of confusion.

It takes me a long time to learn really obvious things. I’m pretty stupid like that.

I don’t know, acid is kind of a weird drug. When you take it, it hits really hard after an hour, that peak last around 4-8 hours or so, then it levels off and last maybe another 4-5 hours.

Then it seems like an instant immunity builds in the body, and you cannot experience that again for at least 5 days. 7 days is better.

But as far as increasing doses go, if you try to take it again before waiting for that immunity to wear off, it really doesn’t matter how much you take, it won’t work. it’s like a dud firecracker.

If you take increased doses it just makes that initial peak period far more intense, but generally, the length of the entire trip is still the same.

But it gets to a point where if you did take too much, you are just tripping too damn hard and it’s not really a good time.

Many years ago when I was about 18, some friends of mine and I picked about 3 glad trash bags full of cowfield shrooms and made purple iced tea out of those.

That tea was so potent, it made acid look like amateur hour. The trip made 2 hours seem like 2 weeks in another world all together.

This was really not one of the brighter things I’ve done.

We had about 4 people picking poop shrooms. If one person had screwed up and picked a Destroying Angel and put it in the bags, everyone would be dead.

My guardian angel must have really been shaking his head at me that day >_>
