Silicon Valley professionals are taking LSD at work to increase productivity

It seems unlikely, but that’s apparently what some Silicon Valley professionals have been doing - and reporting great results.

According to Rolling Stone, a growing number of people are experimenting with "microdoses" of psychedelics to help them work.

A microdose of LSD is around 10-15 micrograms, approximately a tenth of a "normal" dose.

...

At that dosage, Rolling Stone describes the drug's effects as "subperceptual": 'Enough, says Rick Doblin, founder and executive director of the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies, 'to feel a little bit of energy lift, a little bit of insight, but not so much that you are tripping.'"

...

Psychedelics researcher Dr James Fadiman discussed microdosing with Vice, saying: 'People do it and they’re eating better, sleeping better, they're often returning to exercise or yoga or meditation. It’s as if messages are passing through their body more easily."

Have an old friend, brilliant guy, 2 PHDs, he is a doctor.
He can tell you exactly how many times he has taken the drug.
Thinking he is up around 400 by now.
Was curious, but said it seems a bit frightening.
His response was, “stay away”.
I have done that.

This explains the Windows 8 desktop layout.

That and paying coders by number of lines of code, with no penalty for bad lines...

I’d say quite a few execs are taking full doses or have..

It could explain Whitman and Fiorina’s performances.

As someone pretty familiar with LSD from Nick Sand and others back in the early 70s I can vouch decisively that it doesn’t increase productivity

It may enhance creativity at some level..,,a big maybe

If they want a drug to increase production then old tried and true amphetamines are most likely the obvious choice but they come with a high downside

Kubotek KeyCreator.

They want to migrate me over to SolidWorks.

L-Edit might be more to the point...`

Will there be a tendency for those who depend on LSD for inspiration to increase their dosage over time? Is there any chance that at some point they'll become delusional and candidates to commit workplace violence?

I ask because I've never researched the topic.

You can’t take serious LSD doses period on a continuous patter

If you took 250-400 mikes daily you’d be perpetually peaking

I guess

I can’t imagine

Like u said most folks recharged weekly

That was typical for me but I was never driven to take any psychedelics on a regular basis

Not at our dosage level back in those days before folks knew better

I watched the Bob Weir biopic The Other One last month

Bob disclosed that he and Jerry and Hunter and Bear usually tripped on one weekend day only for a period of a year or so in 65/66

And then much less in the years after that

I never tripped weekly

Every 3-4 weeks then off and on 73-77

Very little at the end and mostly psilocybin more than Sand’s efforts

I had a friend who’s big brother ran with Sand and was a Quicksilver roadie

Last trip was in 77 at the famed Dead show late spring in Tuscaloosa

I don’t advise any strong hallucinogens for any but the most solid brains

And even then

Weir God love him is pretty spacey

DMT was around in my day

Short and very very intense trip

I hear the negatives are high which is why in never took off

Folks on those psychedelic tourism shaman trips in the Amazon have died

Usually cardiac arrest from drug induced arrythmia

In Silicon valley, we had to go through drug test before hiring.
Yet to see anyone high in office. yes had seen nervous breakdown or panic attack when QA throws code back.

A college roommate got heavy into acid going on three-day trips. He baked himself within a few months to the point of being unable to function in descent society.

Brain dramage it causes. Really...it does.

I have a friend who insists that pot doesn't cause long-term damage (although he doesn't use himself). I asked why then can you spot an old stoner a mile away. He had no answer to that.

I think that drugs, alcohol, and concussions act in similar fashion. Each produces a temporary trauma to the brain which create feelings of euphoria, mental numbness, and pain and confusion, respectively. These symptoms pass but there is more chronic underlying issues which don't go away but become progressively worse with each exposure. Obviously, as with all things dealing with human physiology, the effects are not uniform from person to person but they are still there.
