MACY'S THANKSGIVING DAY PARADE â 1945 Friends and family- This home movie is of the Macyâs Thanksgiving Day Parade in 1945 in New York City. World War II had just ended several months earlier. The parade had been suspended the prior 3 years due to the need for rubber and helium in the war effort. The movie was filmed by my grandfather, William Whitman, Sr. on 16mm film, and the music is by my daughter, Anna Haas. I hope you enjoy... David

Thank you for posting. A different time, a different country. That was when Hope was real, not a campaign slogan. And that was when we used Change to pick ourselves up to become the strongest nation on earth rather than using it to become just another second-rate nation. I was 2 when that was filmed...I’ve watched us go from that to this...and I hang my head. Happy Thanksgiving? Maybe.
That is a special film and I enjoyed every minute of it. Thank you for sharing!
World War 2, the greatest war the world had ever known, had just ended. Over 20 million killed but when I looked at the film it seemed a simpler time. Maybe the times seemed simpler because we had simpler values.
Where are all the Gays and Transgender dancers that are now a staple at all the New York and Chicago Thanksgiving Parades? (sarc).
I believe it’s over 60 million killed but you’re right.....simpler values. I think people actually cared about one another. Today, it’s a me, me, me society.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving
Going to spend Thanksgiving the best way I know how; with my family. It will be a good day. If Green Bay beats Chicago it will be a perfect day!
If Rogers is on, there’s none better. And, THAT, from a 45 year Cowboys fan!
Thanks for the video.
Great music and a beautiful voice.
Today’s parade kicked off with Salsa music.
Nothing says Thanksgiving better than Salsa!
