I was recently asked my opinion about the current state of affairs, and thought some of you might be interested. Or not. =====================================================
Hi Cousin
You asked my thoughts about Paris, so here they are. What we are seeing is not a clash of civilizations, but rather a clash between civilization and barbarism. Paris is but the latest consequence of The West 1) failing to recognize/address barbarism, and 2) losing faith in civilization itself. In short, Paris is the well-deserved consequence of The West's aggregate contempt for its own Christian heritage.
G.K. Chesterton once said that when a people no longer believe in God, itâs not that they believe in nothing, but rather they will believe in anything. Combine that with ancient Greek observation that tolerance is the final conceit of a dying culture and you get a fairly accurate summation of the current state of affairs. The West no longer believes it is the best foundation for human flourishing, or even a valid structure for society, so it is prey to all sorts of self-loathing suicidal foolishness.
My largest concern is that voiced by Czech statesman Vaclev Klaus, who remarked that the problem was not America being presided by adolescent grifter Barack Obama but rather a polity that selected him overwhelmingly twice. Yes, Obama is evil in every facet, but the people who voted for him are the problem. They do not even possess the impulse of megalomania, rather they want to be cared for as pets.
To paraphrase John Derbyshire, musloids are poor, hard, fertile, ruthless and possess a robust masculine faith. The West is rich, soft, timid, simultaneously hedonist and eunichal -- both of which are rotting the core -- and whatever faith it possesses is tepid, pansified and feminized. A fight between them it is not an even contest. I highly recommend listening to his last few podcast, search for them over at vdare.com. CS Lewis once said famously âWe ridicule patriotism and then wonder why we have traitors in our midst.â The contemporary analogy is that we have ridiculed virtue then wonder why we have evil in our midst. But even worse than that our culture has no aggregate ability to identify and rebuff evil because that is âjudgmental.â
Where will it go? Personally, I believe that unless Cruz is elected in an overwhelming landslide the nation will cease to exist more quickly than otherwise, perhaps in the coming few dozen months. Cruz is not a messiah but he has shown a willingness to confront and overturn the "establishmentâ and is at risk of assassination as a result. None of the other viable candidates are anything but a waste of nutrients. Trump prides himself on being a âdeal makerâ and the Establishment knows that at some level he will make deals with them. I celebrate the disruptive force that Trump has been, but frankly I do not trust him as far as I can throw a piano.
I believe some substantial Remnant of Western Civilization will fight back directly in time, probably resulting in a partition of the USA into a half dozen new nation-states. The only thing holding The West (and the USA) together now is that there is still a vestige of confidence in the system. Once the people no longer have confidence in the system(s), such as will occur with an increasing level of carnage from the musloids on our own soil, then all hell will break loose. We will see the spontaneous rise of independent militias who will act decisively. Whether they will be successful or not, fascist/nazi-like or moral/virtue-based Founding Fathers for the new nation(s) remains to be seen.
The only question is, "When is enough, enough?" My confidence in the American people has been destroyed almost utterly, as they have remained passive, pacified and self-absorbed in the face of an uninterrupted growth in internal fascist hegemony and externally inflicted carnage. Indeed, The Remnant is small. If you consider that it will emerge almost entirely from within the Christian body, by which I mean the 3-5% of America that is Christian, then the cohort will be tiny. I think we will recognize in long hindsight that the tipping point is long past, we are awaiting only the spasm of response.
But, it is coming.

Wow. Good read.
THAT is THE problem.
Hey crusher, great writing. I am disturbed and saddened that I agree with your post. My hope is that any future turmoil that may arrive will turn that 3%-5% into a more robust number. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
YES - summed up extremely well. Paris is just one event/atrocity of many more, and larger ones, to come. We are at war. Don’t want to admit that? Look at the tanks and armed soldiers on the streets of Paris and Brussels over the last 10 days.
Excellent. Thanks for sharing!
In addition to the Chesterton and Lewis citations, I would also point to Kenneth Clark’s 1969 BBC miniseries, ‘Civilisation,’ in which he makes some very shrewd observations about a society’s loss of confidence in it’s self.
Brutal-but true!
Excellent column.
Nicely done.
Sadly accurate.
Great letter! Thanks!
