Pinging the list. Happy Turkey day everyone - I will be pinging on Black Friday, in case anyone else wants to stay home and avoid the crowds.

We've gotten a good bit of rain here in Central Missouri over the past week. I'm not sure exactly how much, but it was between 3 and 4 inches. Temps have been mild but started dropping yesterday evening. There was a quite a lot of frost on the ground this morning. The rain started up again earlier this afternoon. Weather guessers say snow tomorrow morning.

Need to put another deer in the cooler this weekend, replace the broken window panes on the cold frame, retrieve a load of firewood from the sawmill, and a dozen other things that won't all get done. lol

I got the garden mostly cleaned up last weekend. I need to pick the last of the green beans and tear out two rows of tomato plants to be finished for the year. Salad, kale and beets are still going strong.

All the rain filled the pond up to the cut in the dam. It was getting really hard to dig so a little water at this point in time isn't all bad. I tossed the trash pump in after work yesterday. Will be interesting to see how long it takes to empty it back out.

In August, I planted 50 saffron bulbs because it is too expensive to buy. I am now collecting the saffron, drying it and putting it in storage. I'll probably only get two meals out of it but I plan to strew my garden with the pretty crocus next year...and get two meals out of it!

Seriously, it's a fun, easy and satisfying thing to do.

P.S.: The smell that emanates from my drying room is overwhelming. You don't get this from cheap/old saffron.

I, for one, will NOT be shopping on Thanksgiving afternoon or Black Friday. Never have and never will! I much rather be playing in the dirt, picking my vine ripe tomatoes, green beans and tending my sugar snap peas that are coming along to provide me a great treat come January! :) Winter in Florida does give us some more “cold weather crop” goodness. And sugar snap peas do great during Florida winters! :)

We’ll have a house full. Thanksgiving is a wonderful time for us to gather friends, light the fireplace, put out the snackers, set up the serving counter in the kitchen, and let everyone pick their faves for dinner. After dinner, find a place on the couch or floor for the football game, groan,... because everyone has eaten too much. It’s a wonderful time. Then comes snack time with leftovers during half time, more groans, discussing who did what and should have done “that”. It’s a wonderful time.

I’ll be home on Black Friday. These is absolutely nothing that could make me go to the mall shopping.

Gardening pots doing well. I’m very pleased that the peas are doing so well in the bright indirect sunlight. Pansies blooming nicely. It has been raining all day and temperatures will drop into the 30’s. Think I’ll cover up the plants.
