1. Bug out bag. You need to be able to get by, and get home, entirely on your own for 3 days. Think camping “ten essentials” with a tactical twist.
1a. x4. Most of us have dependents or others we’ll have to support during the “on your own” period. They won’t be ready. You’ll have to provide.
2. CCW. When SHTF you won’t have time to duck.
3. Trunk gun. Rarely ever used but if this kind of $#!^ happens near you, having a rifle is critical. Reality is it’s something you’ll leave in the car, high humidity and heat, so think price vs reliability.
4. First aid. Full first responder kit.
5. Water. Gallons.

That’s a good start.

I'm not certain, but I believe in Kalifornia if you have a weapon in, say, your trunk, it's illegal to have ammunition there -- better have it on the back seat or someplace other than the comparment holding the gun.

Needless to say, said weapon best also be unloaded if the po-lice happen to stop you.

I am restoring some classic cars and have to replace the inside door panels. I’ve thought of doing them in kevlar, originally for crash protection but that might make sense for other reasons as well.

Our third (spare) vehicle, a chevy 1/2 ton, ext. cab 4/4, is 25 yrs old, looks practically worthless (clearcoat coming off, and some rust here and there, hubcap missing), but I keep it in a-1 shape mechanically.

Heh... Mine's a 77 1//2T heavy 4x4... When they asked me what color it is at the DMV, I said 'calico'. : D

Looks like a hillbilly truck... never lock it, because no one would think to steal from it... the keys haven't left the ignition since I've owned it....

But there's a porker under the hood, it's been converted for overdrive, the entire undercarriage is bulletproof... And I have a set of 1T diffs (w/springs +6"lift)... waiting on the lockers...

It's all old-school and the sawbox has most everything I can think of to fix it with...

"...even old phone books duct taped strategically..."

Excellent episode of the Mythbusters, I might add.

It was an honor to serve in a just cause.

"I am an American fighting man. I serve in the forces guarding our country and our way of life.
I am prepared to give my life in their defense."

That’s what I was stocking up on when I was out and about.
I wish I could find a better center console, though. The one in my Suburban is almost useless, and the ones I found weren’t much better.

YIKES!
If I had to drive something THAT massive, it’d better have a big ol’ snow plow blade at the front.

I’ve worked with it’s predecessor the PLS. All 10 wheels are powered, the front 4 and rear 2 steer.

Just don’t ask about the mileage.

“Rethinking the idea of having an AR pistol.”

Yes, they certainly can be stored in fairly small places. You may want to consider an SBR instead of the pistol though. That stock sure makes it far easier to aim and control. Plenty of good folders out there too.

I’m betting it’s close to the M-1 Abrams tank: 5 gallons per mile.
