Quote:

Cruz, a 2016 Republican presidential candidate, on Tuesday put his support behind the USA Freedom Act, which would rein in the National Security Agency’s (NSA) bulk collection of Americans’ phone records and reauthorize portions of the Patriot Act currently set to expire June 1.

Reauthorizing the law without changes “is not acceptable,” Cruz said in a statement. “It is absolutely critical for Congress to balance the privacy interests of law-abiding citizens against the public’s interest in national security.”

“The USA Freedom Act of 2015 strikes the right balance by ending the National Security Agency’s unfettered data collection program and implementing other surveillance reforms, while at the same time preserving the government’s ability to obtain information to track down terrorists when it has sufficient justification and support for doing so,” he added.

I don’t think this position is unreasonable.

Cruz has alienated too many people on both sides. The Bush family will undermine his presidency all the way.

It’s Trump’s time. It’s the culmination of all his years.

He’s a great American. Sorry, we all cringe at his New Yorkisms, but hey, I hate New York, but I’ll take Trump for president.

Cruz, Rubio their time will come. We need someone to set the bar higher and bring fresh blood into the leadership of our nation.

The democrats will never provide that.

Unfortunately, Bush now thinks he did well on the debate and will not be dropping out.

BTW, my choice is Cruz.

Trump is my second choice.
There is a large drop to #3 Carson.
Then descend the Andes to get to the level of the rest.

I agree. Great post. Had I been you, I would have posted your post as my post, but I think we’re on the same page.

Trump is heads above them all. HE has the instincts of a warrior.

There is a lot to him also. I mean look at his upbringing. He is very very much like young Patton.

I don’t want a deal maker covering my back in a fight much less leading me into battle.

Deal makers are great at starting fights but not real good at winning, they’re willing to make a deal to end the fight.

I know two flag officers that never did and never will deeply trust Petraeus. One of them was on his staff.

And we know this because....?

I guess Custer lived long enough to write a report condemning his staff for losing the battle?

Or Benteen survived long enough to write an apology for not following orders.

Fact is, Custer didn’t scout out the situation properly.
If he had he wouldn’t have split his forces, IMO.
And I admit I have no training in military matters.

Point is, I would have picked a battle and general where the general not only survived, but won.
Not one where the general and everyone under his command was slaughtered.
Just admit you picked a bad example and pick another one.
Easy peasy.

I would let Trump cover my back any time. You would think, in the business he’s in, over the years there would be stories that would insinuate that Trump is in essence a blowhard. You know what? There’s not. There are stories out there that say just the opposite. One how he came to the aid of some guy getting beat up, and he stopped the attack, when he was a young man.

For me the debates mean nothing, absolutely nothing, apparently for you they mean everything. Trump has put out another position paper today, but no one notices. He’s like an empty suit sort of thing.

REad post #33, take two aspirin and call me in the morning. :-)

There have been some very detailed books out that chronicle the alcholism of Benteen, and also the rift between them. They also proved that Benteen could have heard the shots in the vincinity where Custer was, but he failed to come to Custer’s aid.

Custer split his forces, mistake, but had they met again as they should have, things may have been different.

(It’s “whom.” Whom would you follow into battle, because You is the subject, so whom is the object. No big, but it’s a little painful for this old proofreader to see.)

And you base this observation from others? Where are the others on either side. Surely everyone has enemies, where are the ones with him. In this sense, he’s alot like REagan, apparently he’s mastered the art of how to win friends and influence people.

Irregardless, one could have picked a much better example of a leader making a stand.

Pickett’s charge at Gettysburg or the Charge of the Light Brigade in Crimea.
Even the stand of the Spartans at Thermopylae would have been a little better than Custer.

Probably best of all would have been General Washington’s gamble at Trenton.

Or Dan Morgan at the Cowpens.
Patton’s pivot to Bastogne.
The Marine Corps at Chosin.
The Marines at Hue.

History is littered with great examples.

Add Allen West and there’d be someone to follow into battle.
