Prosecuting Climate Dissent
Wall Street Journal ^ | 8 Nov 2015 | WSJ Opinion by email

Posted on 11/09/2015 6:31:19 PM PST by MtnClimber

Sheldon Whitehouse got his man. The Rhode Island Senator has been lobbying for prosecutions of oil and gas companies over climate change, and New York Attorney General and progressive activist Eric Schneiderman has now obliged by opening a subpoena assault on Exxon Mobil. This marks a dangerous new escalation of the left’s attempt to stamp out all disagreement on global-warming science and policy.

Progressives have been losing the political debate over climate change, failing to pass cap and trade even when Democrats had a supermajority in Congress. So they have turned to the force of the state through President Obama’s executive diktats and now with the threat of prosecution. This assault won’t stop with Exxon. Climate change is the new religion on the left, and progressives are going to treat heretics like Cromwell did Catholics.

The left forgets that the right has a way of stamping out their intolerance, repression and threatened evil deeds.

When I reread I can see why the author did not list their name for this article.

Giver it up. Romney’s still at war against conservatism.

So after we arrest them for crimes against the laws of economics, can we shoot them?

I would imagine Exxon’s attorneys are developing some interesting plans for discovery.

"We mention Mr. Whitehouse because he has been the lead Cromwell in calling for the use of the RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations) statute, a law created to prosecute the mafia, to bring civil cases against companies that fund climate research of which he disapproves. After we called him out in a recent editorial, Mr. Whitehouse denounced us on the Senate floor and compared everyone who disagrees with him to tobacco companies. The tobacco analogy is instructive, though not in the way Mr. Whitehouse intends. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that cigarette smoking causes more than 480,000 deaths each year in the United States. The harm from tobacco is manifest and has been for decades. These columns have always acknowledged this reality, albeit that it’s also a legal product that individuals can choose to use at their own risk."

How about the 150 million of their own citizens that leftist governments have been responsible for in just the last 100 years? I would support holding leftists responsible for that.

After the first 150 million we might have to call it even.

I agree that he is, Jim. Romney’s career is over. But in 2012, it was a very bad choice or an unthinkable choice. Some chose the unthinkable so here we are. Fourteen more months of damage with nothing to constrain him. I took your words to heart that we had to stop the unthinkable and then deal with Romney. I have compared it to a heart attack and cancer. You have no choice but to deal with the heart attack first, stabilize, and then take on the battle against cancer.

There is no better proof that climate change a.k.a. global warming has ceased to be any credible scientific theory and become a cult than when any questioning of the theory is repressed and those questioning are branded “deniers”. This is no different than the Inquisition accusing Galileo of heresy because his scientific inquiry disproved the the Church dogma of an earth centered universe.

And that the environmental satellite data is thrown out, the terrestrial temperature sites keep being adjusted, but the computer models, paid for by the UN to show global warming are the gold standard is the baseline. It is just another case of the politicians thinking they are god. But, they are certainly not GOD because they wallow in lies and evil. We are in an interglacial warming period going back about 16,000 years. Humans did not cause this warming, but when it probably ends in a few thousand years, the earth will truly be in crisis.

It would be better if Exxon and all other energy companies simply ceased doing business in New York and the northeast.

just what the hell are they being prosecuted for? Having a view point? a personal opinion?

For crying out loud, what are the left going to do? Make EVERY product put a warning label on it that says “Although unproven, this product may cause climate change”?

NY should be sued for trying to deceive the public by claiming that man is causing climate change when the amount of CO2 produced by man amounts to only 0.0037% of our atmosphere!
