Ben Carson: "Obvious' GOP Opponents Use National Review 'As Their Political Tool'
Breitbart ^ | 11/3/2015 | Katie McHugh

Top GOP contender and retired neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson tells Breitbart News Daily that 'critics' used conservative magazine National Review to attack him for his relationship with the supplement company, Mannatech.

Executive chairman and host Stephen K. Bannon asked Carson about his reaction to a scathing post published at National Review, calling Carsons statements 'bald faced lies.'

'Does it strike you that theyre not going after , you know, here youve got Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL)77% that has had a job as a pitchman for the Gang of Eight, of which weve had eight hours of debates. I do not believe Sen. Rubio has been asked one question about his marketing of the Gang of Eight bill, and all the gross representations he made about that at the time. Yet this magazine calls you a 'bald-faced liar' , do you'think they single you out for special, brutal treatment?'

'Well, theyre concerned about, that obviously comes from someone on that debate stage,' Carson said. 'Thats a submarine thats sent by them. Theyre very concerned about me, and theyre using National Review as their political tool. Thats pretty obvious.'

'So you believe that information that leaked or used, or was somehow put in by another campaign and given to National Review to be weaponized,' Bannon said.

'Absolutely,' Carson replied.

National Reviews Jim Geraghty reported in January that Carson interacted with Mannatech for a decade, calling the relationship between the candidate and the embattled company 'troubling.' Similar questions were raised during the CNBC debate.

National Review doesn’t have the pull it used to have, nor the respect.

It is not necessary to send critical agents to attack Carson, there are plenty of people on staff to do it without prodding.

If the NatRev is against you - you’re doing things just right.

Isn't Jason Lee Steorts (the semi-literate gay-marriage zealot) now running the show there?

Mark Levin stopped writing in National Review's The Corner a few years ago.

It was bad then, it's gotten worse.

The National Review is filled with sleazeball Leftists. I’m not fond of Carson, but if they’re attacking him he must be doing something right.

I think few care about Carson’s relationship with supplement companies.

I just think Carson is not geared long-term for a run at the presidency and this is an example. He thinks “supplement companies” are a reason for his faltering. He comes across as kind of out of touch even though I think he’s a good guy.

I think he misses how to connect with people and what they care about.

He is absolutely RIGHT! NRO is not a Conservative publication!

NRO appears to me to have turned onto a GOPe mouthpiece.

I let my subscription lapse years ago. The rah-rah attitude for big-government Republicans was apparent even then. There were some great articles (one that spelled out the fraudulent science behind An Inconvenient Truth was really good) but not enough to justify the rest of it.

My faith in National Review took a hit when Buckley died, as the left-leaners began poking their heads out. Now, it’s like WND, trust but verify.

I don’t care about Carson’s supplements, but I do care about him not being truthful about a relationship with the company he made a PBS special for.

Most importantly my issues with him are his positions on things I care about, like immigration, 2nd Amendment and a list of others. He does not have the persona to be an effective President, and as a Pacifist he should not be Commander in Chief.

Think the issue stands from the media on the right believing Conservatism went mainstream. Plus, they have become enthralled with their own self importance.

Instead of being part of what got them their gig in the first place, they are now placating moderate Republicans who may be conservative on abortion, but liberal on gay marriage. Then when they start losing readership and viewership, they wonder what gives.

What gives is Conservatism is much larger than they believe it is. Basically they are listening to the left tell them Conservatism is dead when in fact each time one of these yahoos flies off the reservation and goes lib, we get stronger.

Breitbart doing its best to keep Carson above water. Those idiots had a long story about how, because Carson had a middle-man company that transferred Mannatech's payments, then it is true that Carson didn't have a business relationship with them. They even sat there and argued that Carson wasn't directly endorsing Mannatech, just Glyconutrients in general, even though he did it sitting in front of a big Mannatech logo.

I'd say the jury's still out on that. Somebody who appeals to so many people may have the ability to connect with them -- to address what's really on their minds -- once he gets up to speed. Certainly candidates who were more out of touch have ran and won.

Getting up to speed on politics, and bills, and laws, and government and not stumbling there, is going to be harder for Carson. Something like Mannatech or not knowing what's going on in Washington could really hurt him if he gets the nomination.

Carson has a number of ill conceived persecution issues . He has changed his stand on several issues and he attributes his changing his mind to -”it’s what republicans expect and it is not really what his stand is.” Carson is a CO and a pacifist. SDA’s should not be Pres/CINC. Carson is to tolerant of queers and lesbians and says civil unions are fine. He still believes semi auto pistols are a problem in our major cities. Carson is not a conservative in my book and he is lacking a lot of experience in business/management to even be considered for Pres. He equates surgery to being Pres. Sorry but surgeons are surrounded by highly skilled medical personnel to include other surgeons and even teams of them. The Pres is on his own often. Carson is not ready for prime time.

Carson:”The wonderful thing about a company like Mannatech, is that they realize that when God made us, he gave us the right fuel.” Sounds like a plug for Mannatech and not glyconutrients in general.

Good catch, I wasn't aware of that particular quote. Breitbart, of course, did not report it.
