I have all the respect in the world for Ben Carson. For only the second time in American politics, we would have a president who made his name outside of politics prior to his election if he won. (The first, for trivia fans, is Herbert Hoover as an engineer). He is humble, virtuous, honest, reliable, committed. But there is no way on Earth that he could defeat Hillary Clinton or even stand up to her in a debate.
Hillary would have him for lunch.
Carson combines the limited knowledge of government and budgeting of Sarah Palin with the soft voice of John McCain. Just as Obama ran all over McCain in the debates, so would Hillary run over Carson. But a lot worse.
On top of that, the Hillary Clinton who arrogates to herself the credit for OKing the raid that killed bin Laden is going to make mincemeat of Carson for his statement that he would not have sent troops to Afghanistan to pursue the Taliban after 9-11. Instead, Carson said in the first debate, he would have sought to end our dependence on foreign oil.
Ending our dependence on foreign oil is key and we are just a few years away from achieving total energy independence (except for having to continue to rely on imports from Canada and Mexico). But it will have taken twenty years. It was no substitute for an invasion that knocked al Qaeda back on its heels, forced it into the mountains, and toppled the Taliban government in Afghanistan. Dont confuse the current muddled situation in Afghanistan for the clear cut victory we scored in 2002. Right after 9/11, everybody thought that we would be hit again, probably within a few weeks. It didnt happen because Bush wasnt Carson and sent in troops (while concluding a savvy coalition with the Northern Alliance in Afghanistan).
Carsons reticence to use troops even after 9-11, makes one wonder when he would send in troops. Is he another Rand Paul who wont act to protect us because he fears foreign involvement? By all accounts, we should be frightened by Carsons rise in the polls.
While many dont like Donald Trump, nobody doubts that he would be a strong opponent to Hillary in a campaign and in debates or that he would be a strong leader as president. He brings in new voters that otherwise wouldnt have voted, just as Perot did.
But dont go for Carson!
Leaving his toes for Dick?
Yes, she would. Carson comes across as a nice guy, but no practical political experience.
Trump would, and will, laugh in Hillary’s face while calling her the criminal she is. And for every dig her minions make, he’ll slam her back, every single time.
She’s afraid of him, and he knows it.
Well, if Dick Morris says Carson can’t make it, he’s a shoo-in!
I think Hillary would look like dirt next to someone who had integrity and really believes what he is saying. And when has Dick Morris been right lately?
DM is right on this one.
I’m not sure Dickinson Morris is correct on this one.
I do think Dr Carson’s campaigning abilities are not proven...
but ... Hillary has seld-destructed herself politcally ...so that a dead skunk in the roadway would get more votes than the old scandal-plagued liar from Arkansas
I really think the D’s will find someone else to nominate
and then the R candidate’s campaigning abilities will be put to the test
yeah, I”m not a Carson supporter, but I think Morris is being ridiculous with this. If Carson were to go one on one, where he wouldn’t have to fight for air time with 9 or 10 others, his low key personality would not be a problem. In fact, it might be the way to “hit the girl” effectively.
I hate to admit it but Morris is right on this one. She could destroy Carson with three questions: “Why do you want to raise taxes on the majority of the people in this country?”, “Why do you want to do away with Medicare and replace it was a voucher that will not cover health insurance for seniors?”, and “Why do you want to use the Department of Education as a tool against colleges whose views you do not support?”
Sucking toes as he wrote this.
When what he believes in includes raising taxes for most people and stripping Medicare from seniors then all the integrity in the world will not save his electoral chances.
The female card is Hillary’s go-to advantage. The men have to defer to her, right? She could possibly come out as the over muscled shrew, against a type like Carson, the kindly good doctor.
Carson is so meek, however sharp as a scapel, and Hillary could easily overplay her hand against someone of his nature.
If Hillary, the witch & shrill, breaks out it could backfire on her. Hillary is pretty well despised by her own party anyway. If they even come out for her, remains to be seen. The energy is with Bernie.
Hillary has to use the blacks as her political mules. We will see how that works with Carson in the race.
Of course, we got Obama. I realized that day that Morris makes for good water cooler talk, but he has rarely, if ever, been correct about anything major. It's all his opinion and he has been out of the game for some time. He only gives credence to theater, not substance. This instance is no different.
Cruz and Trump are the ony two that would not hold back in going after Hillary.
So Dick, who is paying your bills these days?
You were about as wrong as you could be in 2008 and 2012 Dick, so why should we listen to you?
Carson has already said that he would not do away with Medicare, and the Congress sets the taxes, not the president.
