I've always loved the F-4 Phantom. Probably got it from my Marine dad who witnessed F-4s doing their thing back in the 1960s. I love their sinister appearance with their droopy nose and tail fins. Such cool looking machines.
Man! You’re watching those at warp speed tonight!
Check this out. They make some very low passes on this one and displace the water they fly over. Hard to believe that this was approved flying.

I thought it was a scientific experiment on how to make a brick fly.
Well, if it is noisy, it must be safe. Ask any Harley rider.
Yeah that YouTube sidebar got its hooks into me. I love these great classic jet fighters and these vintage videos.
I worked on the F4B and the F4J models. I also worked the flight deck on the USS Enterprise during the Vietnam war. I will say those J79 engines in full afterburner were loud. My hearing to this day will testify to that.
Wow, so low over Mono Lake. Amazing. Getting ready for jungle tree-top level flights in VN.
Yep. It’s hard not to like an F-4.
Look at the F-101 Voodoo and you can see some resemblance.
A friend of mine was an in the field armored personnel mechanic, He said they were rarely in a established protected base in Vietnam.. On more than one occasion they had to call in Phantoms to protect them when things got really bad, he said they were always told to pull down the big antennas on the vehicles because the planes would sometimes come thru so low ....
Big bulky hulkers.
After moving to Austin in the early 80’s, I quickly noticed the daily sorties of F4’s that were buzzing around central Texas, based at Bergstrom AFB. I always loved the sound they made.
I can understand the noise still being in your ears, I was in a CH-53E squadron, those triple t-64 engines going off on the flight line next to the barracks were tough to sleep to.
What? I can't hear you?
I guess Youtube is like crack. I only know about Youtube though. It and Wikipedia are like the encyclopedia or the library used to be for me when I was growing up. One thing just leads to another and another question and another search.
