Flossing your teeth can be a waste of time-and do more HARM than good, leading dental expert claims
Daily Mail (U.K.) ^ | 10/15/2015 | Jane Symons

We're constantly told we should be flossing our teeth - despite it being fiddly, time-consuming and sometimes painful.

Figures show that less than a fifth of us actually bother to do it regularly - with many tacky rolls of floss gathering dust in bathrooms the world over.

Now, one leading expert has warned that if not performed correctly, flossing can actually do more harm than good.

Here, Robin Seymour, Emeritus Professor of Dental Sciences at Newcastle University and leading periodontologist, explains why - and suggests other, easier ways to get perfect pearly-whites...Facebook

Hadn’t ever heard of that theory of arteriosclerosis.

The hygiene diagrams will doubtless tell you to use flat floss and do a careful tooth hugging thing from the top down to the gum on each side. I don’t know if there has been scientific comparison between that degree of assiduousness and just flicking the floss down to the gum just enough to knock out any gross particles that the brush won’t get.

Crowns? Try implants.

If you want your mouth REALLY clean, start out with hand sanitizer, rinse and spit. Follow with “Joy” lemon dishwashing liquid, brush vigorously, rinse and spit. Next, hydrogen peroxide, let it do its thing, brushing at the gum line.

If you lift your lip away, you will see a number of white areas on the gums, especially at the gum line, Dip your still-wet tooth brush into 20 Mule Team Borax, take a mouth full of water, and again brush pretty thoroughly. Include the insides of the cheeks and the tongue. Rinse and spit, a couple of times.

The next drink of water you have, straight from the tap, will taste like the cleanest, freshest water you ever sipped.

You are no longer tasting the inside of your mouth, but water as it REALLY tastes.

Although dental hygiene is very important, the truth is that hereditary issues make a huge difference. There are just some people whose mouth make a great septic tank for the dental caries bacteria. So even given the same dental hygiene protocols, some people will get more cavities than others.

Note to self: {whenever food is caught between teeth, use toothpick or floss to remove.} That is all.

Give it enough time and flossing will cause “mouth cancer and gum disease”. “Medical Advice” seems to fluctuate every 10 years or so.

The Neandertal Enigma
by James Shreeve

in local libraries
"Frayer's own reading of the record reveals a number of overlooked traits that clearly and specifically link the Neandertals to the Cro-Magnons. One such trait is the shape of the opening of the nerve canal in the lower jaw, a spot where dentists often give a pain-blocking injection. In many Neandertal, the upper portion of the opening is covered by a broad bony ridge, a curious feature also carried by a significant number of Cro-Magnons. But none of the alleged 'ancestors of us all' fossils from Africa have it, and it is extremely rare in modern people outside Europe." [pp 126-127]

The purpose of flossing is to knock out any particles trapped between your teeth. That’s what causes cavities. When I was younger I got quite a few cavities. Since I started flossing twice a day when I brush my teeth I have had zero cavities. It takes less than a minute to run a piece of floss between all your teeth.

Israel inherited some British dental practices and there is a generation of Israelis with terrible teeth. Plus we use a lot of well water, which is heavy in fluoride, which will discolor teeth.

Younger folks all have braces and nice straight capped teeth.

One of the gifts to my children was to make sure they had nice American teeth.
