STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. — State officials have confirmed that a monument to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. will be built “above and beyond” the monument that celebrate the heroes of the Confederacy on the gigantic rock at Stone Mountain Park.

According the Associated Press and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal has signed off on the project. Park officials said that an elevated tower — featuring a replica of the Liberty Bell — would celebrate the single line in the civil rights martyr’s 1963 “I Have a Dream” speech that makes reference to the 825-foot-tall hunk of granite: “Let freedom ring from Stone Mountain of Georgia.”

They put a civil rights little statue about 3 years ago next to a Confederate monument which has been there for nearly a hundred years.

When the annual memorial meeting to the Confederate monument was done the liberals and black leaders complained to the media that this was done on purpose as an insult to the black community . Course no mention their;s was new and the Confederate monument and annual memorial has been done for nearly a hundred year.

Booker T Washington!
Yes!

A pity he didn’t live longer. The mans message of self reliance, education and hard work were the exact opposite of the grievance culture of today.

G W Carver did more to help poor farmers than anyone then or since.

Either of those men deserve recognition much more than the socialist King.

MLK doesn’t deserve a monument anywhere. He doesn’t deserve to have any streets, schools, or anything else named after him. He was a plagiarist, an instigator of riots, a whoremonger, an adulterer, and a liar.

oh please, pickey, pickey pickey.

Why not? An MLK monument sounds good—But leave room for a large face of Donald J. Trump as a monument to be carved there in 2026 with the words “Savior of the nation”.

“If they go though with it, I suspect there will be a huge dropoff in the number of people going to Stone Mountain.” That is the entire point as they believe that people that want to honor the CSA, would not want to also honor MLK.

Actually most people who go to see stone mountain want to view a work of wonder, like mt. Rushmore, it is a historical miracle.\

we are becoming like ISIS...if you don't like something, destroy it...that will certainly change history...good grief, this country is going downhill so fast that I can hardly imagine it.

Oh noes.

There should be a head shot sculpture above the Confederate generals including Sharpton, Obama, Farrakhan, Trayvon, and the Gentle Giant.

At least it is better than the demands to destroy Stone Mountain’s facade.

It is my understanding that the MLK people in Atlanta collect royalties from every city and town that names anything for MLK. It’s not free to be “diverse” and “open”. But the American people don’t know that.

Deal. From unremarkable congressman to moderately repugnant governor. A true champion of being unimpressive.
