This is a general outline to how you would deport 20-30 million illegal aliens.
Phase 1: Voluntary Paid deportation, If you turn yourself in for free deportation the US government will pay for their plane/bus/boat ticket back to the country of their origin. In exchange for paying for the person’s fare home you take their finger prints and bio-metric data and picture, etc. You put it in a database and they have to wait 10 years and pay a $5,000 fee before they can legally apply to come into this country again, all future travel visas are denied as well in this time period. (1st year)
Phase 2: Start by going after people here on expired Visas. Start with the northern states and work your way Downward to the southern states, by the time you get to the southern most states good money will be on a lot of these illegals already being gone. You have to start with the states that have the least density of illegals (more than likely the northern states). You take their finger prints and bio-metric data and picture, etc. You put their fingerprints and pictures in a database and they have to wait 20 years and pay a $10,000 fee before they can legally apply to come into this country again, all future travel visas are denied as well in this time period. (1st year - 2nd year )
Phase 3: Finish off the Remnants that are here illegally who didn’t self deport in Phase 1, Or were taken care of in Phase 2. Start again in the northern states and work your way down. You put their fingerprints and pictures in a database and they have a lifetime ban on ever becoming a legal immigrant, all future travel visas are denied permanently as well. (2nd year - 4rd year )
Phase 4: Make sure we Finish the Damned wall. (1st year - 4th year)
Phase 5: Maintain immigration enforcement for those who are still sneaking in. Anyone caught here illegal is immediately deported, You put their fingerprints and pictures in a database and they have a lifetime ban on ever becoming a legal immigrant, all future travel visas are denied permanently as well. (4th year onwards)
Basically you self-deport them by letting them know they will be deported.
Granted some details would be negotiable, but you don't even have to "round them all up" at once, but you take a phased approach and rely on people leaving and making it easy for them to leave it will expedite things.

Kill welfare for illegals. Spread the word all over Mexico. Problem solved in a matter of months.

Harshly fine/punish employers for hiring illegals and the jobs dry up and the illegals begin going home - while the ones that wanted to come here realize it would be pointless.
This is also much tougher to demagogue since the punishments fall on corporations (that the media consider evil anyway) instead of illegal individuals, families with kids, etc.
Sure build the wall, we could use one - but strictly enforcing eVerify and going after companies that hire illegals would solve the problem at almost no cost.

I like the idea of a 10 mile strip DMZ along our southern border reserved for military training and border enforcement.

YUP, though my phases were the direct plan for the actual DEPORTATION, your ideas are an excellent complement to getting rid of the “Magnet”.
That is, actually, the only necessary step, along with stopping the welfare. Usually a hit in the wallet is the most painful one. If illegals cannot earn money to eat, and to live, and to send back home, they will self-deport at the light speed or faster. You only need to focus on those who get their money by committing crimes. But even then the cost of each punishment shouldn't exceed, say, $0.50 per convict.
Easy. Cut off their access to jobs. Cut of their access to public assistance. Most will leave on their own. They don’t have to pay smugglers to go home. When they get home they tell their friends and neighbors that they cannot find jobs or collect welfare. Stay home.

If we do your steps first the number of needing manual deportation goes from 30-20 million down to about 10-5 million.

Poooor Mexico would go into the DUMPS from lack of remittance payments.
2) Anyone living illegally after that date in the United States are subject to civil forfeiture of any property, including motor vehicles, homes, businesses, etc.
3) Any business which employs illegal aliens will be fined $150,000 per employee unless all employees had been screened through eVerify. In the case of businesses which have been screened, if more than 2 illegal aliens are found to be employed, $150,000 per additional employee fine.
4) Any business which hires a business which employs illegal aliens shall be fined no less than $50,000 per illegal alien - it will be highly recommended for businesses which hire cleaners, stockers, inventory takers, etc to have those third party businesses post a bond of no less than $50,000 per employee to cover this fine.
Stand away from the border, there will be a rush to get out of town come new year's eve.
