Tonight, as the full Moon reaches its closest point to Earth, it will also be dimmed by a total lunar eclipse. This Supermoon eclipse will reach totality at 10:11 p.m Eastern Time, and will last one hour and 12 minutes. According to NASA, it will be visible to North and South America, Europe, Africa, and parts of West Asia and the eastern Pacific.

Always impressed with how sharp the Apollo mission pics are. They had Hasselblad cameras...which are very, very expensive and high quality.

Always impressed with how sharp the Apollo mission pics are. That's because they were taken in New Mexico in a secret TV studio. Can't you see how the shadows are all wrong? C'mon, you've got to keep up with the latest in tin foil hat conspiracy.
Right now, I'm watching "Wizard of Oz" on mute, synchronized with Pink Floyd's "Dark Side Of The Moon." Lot of secrets being revealed to me. Stay tuned.

I always thought it would have been the coolest thing to time a lunar mission with a lunar eclipse, and have the landing crew witness a solar eclipse by the Earth.
The real capper would be to have a crew on Mars for a transit of Earth. Alas, I don't think I'll live to see that.:-(

I didn’t realize that one Apollo mission ended up very close to Surveyor3. Amazing.

Yes, that was one of the mission objectives of Apollo 12. They wanted to demonstrate the capability for pinpoint landings in preparation for later missions which would require them. If you go to the Air and Space Smithsonian in DC you can see the Surveyor 3 TV camera which was returned for analysis of its materials after an extended lunar stay. You look at it and wonder how amazing that it was launched, landed there unmanned, and then returned by men on a manned mission.

Apollo 12 was actually targeted to land directly in the center of the Surveyor crater. But when the LEM was approaching to land the Conrad saw they would be too close to the Surveyor so he flew on to the far rim and landed. Later they walked to Surveyor and retrieved pieces to be returned and studied for long term exposure to the lunar environment.
Thank you Emil Schiesser!
