Who Was the Most Appealing Person in the GOP Debate?
News Machete ^ | 9/17/2015 | News Machete

Posted on 09/17/2015 9:00:48 AM PDT by conservativejoy

I'll leave coverage of the substance of the GOP debate to others. I want to talk about the style of the participants--who was the best, most appealing speaker?

Chris Christie spoke too quickly, making himself appear nervous. Perhaps he was nervous, because he was on the verge of being eliminated from the grownups debate.

John Kasich has no eyebrows and his face looks partially melted, making himself look like a space alien. He spoke a lot but he didn't seem to make a whole lot of sense.

Carly Fiorina was forceful and articulate. She also looked stern and had this sour look on her face, like a constantly angry schoolmarm. She almost never smiled or had any warmth in her voice.

Ben Carson reminded me of blind David Patterson, the former Governor of New York who was very soft spoken. He talked about important things, but how can you speak with passion about the dangers of a nuclear Iran when you talk in such a soft tone?

Donald Trump was amusing as always and seemed like a character actor. Not exactly Presidential, more like Peter Falk from Columbo.

Ted Cruz was the best. He looked the camera right in the eye, and spoke with a clear, firm voice that had a sense of urgency.

Rand Paul was not great or terrible, but seemed to whine when he talked about drugs.

Scott Walker wasn't bad but he actually spoke the least in the debate. He has this weird way of staring into the camera with one eye but the other is a little off center making it look like he has a glass eye (which he doesn't.)

They showed Mike Huckabee often from a sideview and it wasn't flattering. He looks severely overweight but he did speak with passion. Marco Rubio spoke with a sense of urgency about foreign policy but there also seemed to be a note of desperation in his presentation.

Jeb Bush was definitely higher energy, but he had this weird habit of moving his head when he talked. As he talked at length I saw his head move left and right, right and left, and left and right like windshield wipers. I suppose he was trying to look at all the audience, but when the most important audience was behind a camera his movements seemed weird.

Overall Ted Cruz was the best. Carly had forceful moments but as I said she was not very likeable. Marco and even Jeb had moments too.

In other words, according to you, Donald should take the Donald out of Donald. Yeah, right. Advice from a Donald hater is no advice at all.

I can well understand why he talks about himself and trashes other people. It's easier and more fun then actually coming up with proposals for solutions.

The thread question is: “who was the most appealing PERSON in the GOP debate?”

I only watched one debate - and of the four men, Lindsey was the most appealing.

The question is not “who is best qualified to be POTUS, or whose experience demonstrates proven leadership for domestic and foreign issues, or whose conservative credentials appeal to chris37 and his friends?”

The English language - use it - don’t abuse it!!!!!

DoodleDawg is a liberal. She hates the South, she hates the police, she was FOR the repeal of DADT, she is IN favor of trannys openly serving in the military. You really should know who you lie down with because this one will give you fleas.

It appears you think “the clown candidate” will fail.

So far Trump is drawing ten times the crowds the other candidates are drawing.

So who is the clown?

The guy that has the most support in almost every single state, or the guy that’s trying to tell him how to run his campaign to draw support?

Let me guess, you want him to be more like the other candidates.

The GOPe agrees with you.

So far. But the convention isn't next month, is it?

So who is the clown?

Oh still Trump. Definitely.

Let me guess, you want him to be more like the other candidates.

No I want Trump to be Trump so this farce can eventually end and Ted Cruz can take over first place.

The GOPe agrees with you.

I doubt they do, but I don't care what they think one way or the other.

And that has what to do with current support, with him being himself?  Folks out there don't agree with you by a large margine.

So who is the clown?

Oh still Trump. Definitely.

That doesn't even make sense to you.  If he was acting the part of a clown people would not be rushing to support him.  You folks are going to have to come back to reality at some point.  Lying to yourself isn't any way to operate.

Let me guess, you want him to be more like the other candidates.

Yep, and that formula has worked so well in the recent past.  Tell me what Conservative we have nominated for the presidency since Reagan.

Either we go with the 'bigger than life' Trump, or we allow the Democrats and Moderate Republicans to nominate another Leftist for us.

Trump is hawking Conservative policies.  Accept it and get with the program.

You put a Fiorina, a Christie, a Bush, or a Rubio out there, and I won't be voting for the top slot in 2016.

The GOPe agrees with you.

I doubt they do, but I don't care what they think one way or the other.

Sure they do, and you damn well know it.  What's more, ask yoursel why you're helping them to trash the only guy that will get some of what we want done the next four years.

He does come up with proposals for solutions. You just choose to ignore those parts of his comments and focus on the trashing other people part. Selective listening on your part because it fits into your dislike of Trump meme. So, your viewpoints are discounted by others more rational than you because you have no rationality when it comes to all things Trump.

Cruz can win if he just stays middle of the pack into the primaries and moves up gradually during them, and he can do that by appearing to be just a bit better than the candidates in front of him at any given time. He’s not the sort of person to explode out into a big lead at any point, but I think the primary voters may begin to realize that he has the necessary gravitas. Even Trump is vulnerable on that factor.

I don’t know why Jindal is being ignored or written off, but in any case Cruz can pick him as a running mate.

Fiorina just seemed to be out of touch with reality with her high school public speaking concepts of Lady Liberty and Lady Justice — obviously we were meant to draw a line to Lady President but I just got off the bus at Lady Switch Parties.

I could hardly agree more with you that Rubio made a very nice showing, mostly I like Rubio except for his pushing ammnesty in the past. I realize I should forget about it but I can't. I look at Ted Cruz and see everything that is good in Rubio plus a lot more understanding of what this country is all about. Cruz understands the constitution protects people and the States from the Federal Government.

So, Cruz is the man in my book.

All that being said, with the exception of Jeb Bush I would not be sickened having to vote for any of them as the Republican Candidate. Jeb Bush is a fake. I was so angered when he tried to do his “apoligize to my wife” stunt last night. I was so relieved when Trump said “No”. I was further repulsed when I found out that Bush, already the tallest on the stage stood on his tip toes for all the group pictures that were taken. Talk about sophomoric.

I live in Kentucky. I voted for Rand Paul as senator, I like him as senator. I wish we had two of him instead of him and McConnell but Paul would not be one of my first choices for president. I did however like his answer to the drugs question. Millions of drug users are in prison but Jeb Bush is running for president, perhaps he didn't inhale but just like I thought it should disqualify Clinton I think it should disqualify Bush. I am not a black activist, I'm not even black but I do think that rich kids don't go to prison for the same things that poor kids do especially poor black kids. There are a lot of reasons for that but it still doesn't make it good. About 3/4’s of our prison population is there because of drugs, we gotta change that. I doubt that anybody in the media will pick it up but I think it is possible that Paul took away hundreds of thousands of votes from Bush because of his talking about the inequality of the drug laws and how Bush took advantage of it. Certainly every black person ever involded with drugs in any way heard that. So, I think Rand Paul stuck a fork in Bush and I thank him for it.

I thought Huckabee sounded really good, unfortunately I know too much about his past to ever “want” to vote for him. Christi was OK but although Fiorina had some good lines they would have been much better in print, she is a sour, dour puss. She did however probably have the best line in the debate last night when she talked about Planned Parenthood and the videos that expose them. She sounded truly emotional, angered and saddened at the same time, just like most of us.

Same goes for Kasish as far as having a few good lines, some pretty bad though, but what a sour, dour puss.

Carson, he ran a department in a hospital. There is nothing wrong with Carson, a great guy but I would much rather see him at Health & Human Services. I could be a lot more excited about him if he expressed his understanding of the Constitution but alas he doesn't do that. Experience is great but it is worthless without a conservative understanding of the Federal Constitution and having a desire to defend it.

I used to be “stuck on Walker”, I thought he was the man. He did not impress me last night. It is a shame because he has done really wonderful things. Rick Perry was kind of the same way in the last election, he had a great track record but did poorly in the debates and couldn't stay in. He learned early on this time and wisely got out. I expect that if Walker shows poorly in NH and IA that he too will fade away.

Cruz really doesn't have any experience running things of any importance but he surely has the constitution down pat.
If I have to vote for Trump I will but oh how I hope I get to pull the lever in the general for Cruz!

I guess I'm looking for more realistic proposals than "I'll build the biggest and best, most beautiful wall anyone has ever seen and I'll make Mexico pay for it." He had what was suppoed to be an out line of his defense policy on Tuesday, and nothing came out. We've heard different versions of his tax plan, different versions of his views on Syrian refugees, different versions of just about everything. That's not a campaign, that's stand-up comedy.

Links about iCarly. Thank-you.

t best, Fiorina is worthy of a Toastmasters honor for her ability to speak.
However...she’s no conservative and the office of the POTUS is not HP...we can’t afford to elect another mistake for this office based on her record:

“there is no job that is America’s God-given right anymore.”

if you don’t have a room full of “diversity” when making an important decision, you will not get the decision right. (ff 9:43 - 13:00)
Fiorina said she supports the DREAM Act
Fiorina said there is scientific consensus that climate change is real and caused by humans
Supports Common Core / No Child Left Behind was positive
Buzzfeed: Audio And Video Of Carly Fiorina’s Forceful Praise Of Hillary Clinton In 2008
Fiorina majored in

medieval history at Stanford yet weeks after 9/11 claimed in a direct quote of Fiorina’s text comprising the last 500 words of a 3,600-word speech given on September 26, 2001 about Islamic civilization - “There was once a civilization that was the greatest in the world.”

Yes. I do agree that Carson’s position; as he stated it then is unacceptable to me, and would be to Trump and most conservatives. In the debate last night he did seem to modify it pointing out he had been to the border, saw the holes in what passes for a fence, as well as the human devastation caused by drugs, cartel gangs, and inadequate Border Patrol; in effect agreeing with Trump that a serious fence had to be built. That brought on a friendly exchange, chuckles, nods and pats by Trump, and a deferential grin by Carson. An effective border fence, of course, is only the fist step of many to reclaim control of our National sovereignty, and where Dr.Carson will wind-up on this we have yet to learn.
Trump is a very sharp guy though, and if he could co-op the candidate running second to him he would probably give it a try. Between the two of them, by Real Clear Politics polling averages, they accounted for well over 50% of likely primary voters. Only God Himself, of course, knows if this might be true or will be.
I will, however, be watching and listening carefully to see if the doctor’s positions become more conservative, and the distance between his and Donald Trump’s narrow.
Thanks for your very helpful reply.
