In June 2013, a group of friends launched a weather balloon a few miles from Tuba City, Arizona. Enjoy the video of our launch preparations, video footage, and some data analysis of the flight," Bryan Chan writes in the description section of the video sharing site.
--- snip ---
The balloon soars thousands of feet in minutes and keeps going. It eventually captures breathtaking views of the earth and Grand Canyon from space.
The group used a "GoPro Hero3, Sony Camcorder, Samsung Galaxy Note II phone," Chan writes. "The GoPro and camcorder were recording video footage, while the phone was taking still images."

This balloon had one job: reporting on weather, not to sightsee.
You just can’t rely on these bureaucrats ;)

Yeah I am gonna pick a nit here:
"Some background on this picture: myself and four friends sent a weather balloon with a GoPro, camcorder, and phone back in June 2013.
Why is it so de rigueur to use the word "myself" these days. As in this case, it is usually misused....
Fantastic video however!

= sigh = I know. I cringe at some the commonly used expressions so prevalent in youth dialect today. My senior English teacher, rest her soul, would be mortified.

Neat. The stupid music they added to it just made me want to turn it off quicker.
To: Islander7
They used a fish eye lens and it is evident throughout the video...especially at 1:07-1:10 and at 1:27.

There is a High School group out of Bishop, CA, named Earth to Sky Calculus. They release weather balloons regularly to study science. Their funding comes from donations to buy the helium.
Details of their experiments, pictures, etc appear regularly on http://spaceweather.com/ There is a picture from their Sept. 6 launch which was taken of the “Rough Fire” in Ca.
Earth 2 Sky Calculus
@Earth2SkyCalc
A group of fairly brilliant high school students who send weather balloons to the stratosphere for both research and profit.

And look at 9:38 to see how close it came down...with the Earth "spinning" underneath it.
{;^)0524 hrs to 0814 hrs (7:36)
Almost three hours and it falls close by where it started. (which is common in every one of these flights)
