A cache of Atari game cartridges dug up in a New Mexico landfill last year has generated more than $100,000 in sales over the last several months.

The April 2014 dig ended speculation surrounding an urban legend and proved it to be true that Atari discarded hundreds of games, including E.T. The Extraterrestrial, more than 30 years ago.

In addition to the E.T. cartridges, Joseph Lewandowski found more than 60 other titles including Asteroids, Missile Command, Warlords, Star Raiders, Swordquest, Centipede and Super Breakout.

Not even nostalgia can evoke a shred of enjoyment out of that bizarre ET game.

I’m sure that files of the pirated ROMs and emulators are out there. This stuff is only of interest to serious collectors. If you just want to play the games, you can.

Atari Games is available in the Google Play store, no need to resort to illegal copies.

I remember British Leyland closing their dealerships in the United States. They forced the car dealers to smash every casting, cut every wiring harness up, render all components non-functional, and witness them to the landfill, smelter, or appropriate disposal.

Saddest month of my younger years.

At least some good came of that, if those were Lucas electrical components.

space invaders photo: Space Invaders SpcInv.png

Space Invaders was ported from the arcade to the Atari 2600, but like most of those ports was a poor imitation.

Easy on my Lord of Darkness, Lucas. I never drove without extras in the boot or glove box.
