Hershey’s Chocolate has moved to Mexico too. For example look at the packaging on many chocolate products made by Hershey’s - Made in Mexico - Reese ‘s Peanut Butter Cups. so I purchase chocolates made in Escanaba, MI - Sayklly’s Chocolate

I used to love Hershey Chocolate with Almond bars and Lowney’s Cherry Blossoms. Hershey took over Lowney’s in the early 2000s and then closed the Hershey plant in Smith Falls, ON in 2007 and moved to May-heeko. Since then, I will not eat ANYTHING that is made by Hershey. They made a ‘business decision’, I made a ‘consumer decision’. Screw you, Hershey Canada (de May-heeko)! Enjoy the lower costs, AND decreased sales.

Most M&Ms are made in Mexico these days, too.

This is getting ridiculous. America needs to back American businesses once again. In America.

A business is responsible to its shareholders. You can't expect them to willingly pay the highest corporate tax rates in the world when the are headquartered here when they could pay half the rate by moving 50 miles south.

“I don’t disagree, as long as we ELIMINATE some of the taxes the tariffs would replace. The selective tariffs brings us the law of unintended consequences.”

Tariffs should be economically neutral. Therefore we should have an across the board tariff on all imports (say 30%), not selective tariffs.

The early leaders of the new republic knew the nation had to develop industry in order to build a strong economy so the nation would not be dependent on Europe. Despite the high tariffs of the era, Yankee shippers prospered buying and selling with the mercantilist nations of Europe and Asia. Plus, the high US tariffs allowed the US to industrialize.

The free trade policies of the 1990’s - lowering of tariffs and quotas - have been a disaster for the US economy. Our political, academic and business leaders have been untruthful. We’ve opened our markets to nations like China and they’ve used the opening to decimate the manufacturing base we spent 100 years building. Meanwhile they’ve continued to maintain tariff and non tariff barriers to US imports while shamelessly ignoring intellectual property rights by copying innovation. China and other nations are at war with us economically and we are not fighting back. The results are predictable - loss of our manufacturing base and its middle class jobs plus a declining standard of living for the average family.

We have to rebuild our manufacturing base. High tariffs worked for us in the 1800’s and 1900’s because we have such a large internal market and abundant natural resources. They can work again, particularly as we move to an era where we have energy self sufficiency again.

Raise tariffs and lower income tax rates. The Chinese government also encourages exports by giving export credits to factories sending goods abroad. We can and should do the same by implementing a 0% federal corporate income tax on profits earned from exports of 100% US manufactured products.

Rebuilding our manufacturing base is a strategic imperative. Without a strong manufacturing base we cannot afford to maintain a strong military.

“America needs to back American businesses once again.”

Unfortunately our GOP House has decided to join with the globalists and eliminate country of origin labeling for food products. Likely they’ll eventually do the same for all imported products. The American people be damned.
