Before he had even officially announced his run for the GOP presidential nomination, Donald Trump was talking up his plan to make Mexico pay to build a massive wall along its border with the United States.
They will pay for it because they have really ripped this country off, he said in an interview back in May. They have really taken advantage of us both economically and at the border. They will pay for that fence.
And his position has not changed in the months since. Just this week, speaking to Fox News Sean Hannity, Trump reiterated the claim, saying, Were not paying for it. You know how easy that is? Theyll probably just give us the money.
I watch politicians come on: Can you imagine, Sean, hes saying Mexicos going to pay? Theyll never pay. And Im saying, thats like a hundred percent, Trump added. Thats not like 98 percent. Sean, its a hundred percent theyre [going to] pay. And if they dont pay, well charge em a little tariff. Itll be paid. But we need the wall.
Well, now the Mexican government has spoken and their message is: Not so fast.
Of course its false, Eduardo Sanchez, a spokesperson for Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto told Bloomberg in an interview last night. It reflects an enormous ignorance for what Mexico represents, and also the irresponsibility of the candidate whos saying it.
Mexicans in the U.S. work with passion, they do their jobs well, Sanchez added. His comments reflect an enormous lack of knowledge of the reality in the U.S.
Of course, this is not the first time the Mexican government has had to correct Trump. Following the candidates controversial comments about Mexican rapists, Mexicos Interior Minister Miguel Angel Osorio Chong called the claims prejudiced and absurd and said Trump surely doesnt know the contributions made by migrants from practically every nation in the world, who have supported the development of the United States.
The author is living in a fantasy world.
Tax remittances and there you go.
So easy even I can grasp it.
Mehico is about to get Trumped!
Thou protest too much, indicating exactly the opposite.
My Money’s on Trump. There is more than one way to skin a cat and I’ll bet Trump knows them all.
5% on ever wire transfer originating in America going to Mexico, in three months the wall is fully funded.
Slap a 50% excise tax on all remittances to foreign countries. That’ll cover it.
L
If they are so important here, WHY HAVEN'T THEY HELPED THE COUNTRY THEY ARE LEAVING!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you.
5%? Make it 50%.
This is the first time anyone has bothered to even ask. Threaten to take away some aid and see what their position is then.
It’s about time we had someone running who used the position of the USA to make other countries kiss OUR a$$ for a while...
In response Trump ought to say, in the interests of “immigration reform,” he is going to propose adopting Mexico’s immigration laws.
Ahh, C’mon - can’t they just agree to dig the ditch and we’ll provide the water and alligators (or better yet, Mutant Sharks with fricken’ lasers attached to their heads)?
Didn’t you already have one thread pulled today for using the WRONG source link?
What is wrong with you? You’ve been here long enough and you don’t know how to post a thread?
Trump is a vicious business pit bull. Mexico will hopefully wake up on a wed morning in November 2016 and realize things have to change. Trump is brilliant, this gets everyone talking about immigration.
HOORAY Trump
Fine, lets impose a 75% transfer “fee” on all money leaving CONUS to Mexico from all employed people working for US companies
75!
Sheriff Joe and Mexican hard labor wall construction chain gangs.
Mexico can start a shooting war if they want. Our grandpas would have been shooting at them a long time ago.
Obama, the Democrats and their GOP allies are sell-out pussies.
