The often-topless Miley Cyrus is questioning how people could possibly consider fellow pop star Taylor Swift to be a role model when — gasp! — guns appear in the music video for Swift’s latest single, “Bad Blood.”
“That’s supposed to be a good example?” Cyrus said in an interview with Marie Claire published Friday. “And I’m a bad role model because I’m running around with my t[******] out? I’m not sure how t[******] are worse than guns.”
Cyrus frequently posts pictures of herself topless in support of a “feminist” movement called “Free the Nipple,” which maintains that walking around with your boobs out is an “equality movement, and a mission to empower women around the world,” according to its website.
She continued to emphasize this commitment to public nudity throughout the interview, also saying “You want to hack my e-mail so you can find my nude pictures? I’ll just f[******] put them up.”
Personally, I don’t care what Cyrus does. If she wants people to see her naked everywhere, fine. But as for being a suitable role model, unless you’re someone who won’t ever have to worry about finding a job — such as a born-into-privilege pop star like Cyrus, or a Kardashian — following her example and posting naked pictures of yourself online is a bad move, because you’ll have a very hard time getting hired. Being in a video where you hold a gun and engage in stage combat like Swift did won’t have the same effect effect. Fair or not — that’s just a fact.

I get the 1a angle to the story, but I have to think that the National Review could better spend its money on writers that write about something a little bit more weighty.

Can’t speak for Miley Cyrus (her dad was a mostly awful country singer but I know very little about her). However, Taylor Swift comes across to me as a highly intelligent and business-savvy woman.
