Hi,
I just went into our above ground pool; it is leaking from the bottom. The vinyl has appeared to thin and there are three small holes. My daughter is outside doing her best to plug from the outside with duct tape.
I am still in my suit and have removed my contacts... I have duct tape. Trying to call pool stores but keep getting voice mail trees.
Any ideas before the water completely drains???
uh....2,000 gallon pools don’t “turn over” so easy.....
We quickly ruled out above ground pools. Costly to maintain, ruin your curb appeal, constantly leaking, decking built surrounding the thing, and vinyl liners are hard to keep up ph, alkalinity, hardness, and chlorine or bromine. The components are cheap and have about a three year replacement cycle.
Liner and fiberglass in-ground pools are much of the above.
Our county requires swim-outs at both ends, less than one foot deep and at least 30 inches out. The entire pool and deck (patio) must be on a continuous ground plane tied into the electrical ground at the breaker box and rods every so many feet. An underwater light of at least 500 watts must be installed and when water motion is detected after sunset, it turns itself on. Each door of the house which exits to the pool area must be on a 100 decible alarm set to 15 seconds. If a door is left open for more than 15 seconds the world is woken up. All exterior gates must be at least five feet (and fence)and the gates must be self closing with latches above 36 inches from the ground. Also a pool sensor alarm must be installed and calibrated to go off using a five pound weight dropped from 24 inches above the water.
With all of these code requirements we had to go with the gunnite / plaster pool.
Might I add a plug for Mid South Pool Builders?! Best people ever. Ten year warranty on your pool.
If they can't help you....call your local water authority. The guys will love it.
That’s one of the best get ups I’ve seen on a dog!
That took a lot of time.
Very Funny!
That's an all too common occurrence. I've yet to hear of any leaking from the top........
Sounds like you're going to have to drain the pool and locate the leak then patch it......
I was thinking add a bunch of Portland.
Obviously you’re one of them prissy city boys. This is a job for Rednecks.
Get a couple rednecks and a few cases of beer and that pool will be upside down with a 454 running the pump in no time.
Hold mh’ beer and watch this!
He'll still have the problem that can't be fixed unless the pool is completely drained............
Get out the truck and start filming, this'll be a good one.
Bottom, LOL

Wrong, it will stop total loss of water and the vinyl repair kits can be used below water.
OK, if you say so. Not gonna say been there........
Marlig Fix-A-Leak Pool and Spa Leak Sealer - 32 oz
by Marlig Industries
If the liner is in that bad a shape/thinning, for sure a replacement is the only ‘fix’. But as a temp. any goo up to and including rubber cement from an art supply store will work as a temp fix IF it can be put into the hole and covered.
If the liner were otherwise new with a hole, it could be permanent. most leak fixes fail because people just slop crap over an area and call it good.
A dry pool will for sure allow the best prep and best long term success for a repair but it sounds to me that R&R is the only real fix anyway.
Most pool supply places have wet patch system for less than 20 bucks. Used one a couple of years ago on my above ground and it worke like a champ. The only other thing you need is a good mask and snorkel.
I don’t know why but I found what you wrote here very funny! Haha thanks
They have liner repair kits at Lowe’s or Home Fepot...
I have used marine epoxy on pool liners before with some success.
It is a two part epoxy, green and white.
You mix it in your plastic gloved hand and then apply it over the hole.
Should seal right up.
It will work as a temporary fix.
Cost is about $5-7.00.
A good hardware store will carry it.
