Does anyone remember this old board game?

Way back when I was a little kid there were occasional specials sponsored by the 3M company. I don't remember much about them but I do remember a certain commercial that ran during the telecasts.

It was for a game 3M had created involving a small square board with holes in it and a set of pegs. The pegs were put in the holes and then other pegs were laid atop them.

It struck me at the time because it seemed similar to a game we had at elementary school which consisted of a board and pegs, except that this was really sophisticated and supposed to be really intellectual. It had a short one syllable name, but I have never been able to recall it.

Does anyone else remember this commercial or recall the game?

I had one but I’m still trying to remember the name. I think it was something like “Twixt”.

It’s called “cribbage”. That is the only game I know that uses pegs, but it also involves a deck of playing cards

Never mind. Found it!

I apologize for wasting bandwidth. Just be happy I looked up Henlein's bibliography on Wikipedia before asking about "The Unpleasant Profession of Jonathan Hoag!"

PS: Is this game still available? Anybody here ever play it?

I think it was Twixt, just to confirm the first response.

I don’t think the OP is thinking about Twixt. I can see the game in my head. It’s more like black and white thimbles that get stacked on top of each other, right?

I forget the trade name. But the kit consisted of bed vertical and cross beams snapped together in box fashion. From the holed green fiberboard bases upwards and across. There were also panels for windows and brick that were pushed against the construction.

It was Kenner’s answer to the still the popular ‘Erector Sets’ in the early to mid 1960s.

With a bit of imagination and angled roof beams. Pretty cool looking spaceships could be built, too!

Wow . . . that was quick.

Thanks to all who responded!

Do they still make this game? Of course, it says it can be played with pen and paper, so the set isn't necessary. But it looks so neat!

No; no thimbles involved. It was "Twixt," all right.

Um . . . no. It was Twixt. I wasn’t referring to Tinkertoys.
