What's with the full beards on Major League baseball players?
none | July 17, 2015 | Hot Tobasco

What is with the current fad of major league baseball players displaying full beards and their sycophant fans exhibiting the same? In today’s political climate, the only individuals I see sporting that facial hair are the Islamic extremists such as ISIS who are killing people throughout the world. Is this their attempt to identify with that religion and somehow send a message that they are badasses?

I’m sorry but I just don’t get it………..I have no problem with men and properly trimmed beards but these players are going to the extreme. With that being said, there should be a dress code in the MLB that requires all players to not only dress appropriately but restrict the hair length and facial hair.

I remember that as well. They get these big

bumps where the hair would curl back and I guess

re-enter their face.

Wonder if black people still use that evil smelling paste

to shave with.Scrape their face with a butter knife

after it melts the hair or something

A full beard? That’s a good idea. :-)

Fifty years ago every sports fan knew the baseball greats....Mays, Mantle, Aaron, Koufax, etal. They recently did a survey to test the baseball knowledge of the average fan. A very large percentage of Americans do not know who Mike Trout is. Trout is considered the best player in the game by many baseball experts.

The 70’s A’s grew mustaches because Charlie Finley had a mustache promotion night and he gave a bonus to any player that grew one as a tie-in to the promotion.

"Do the Cincinnati Reds still have an edict against facial hair?"

Not anymore.

It was kind of a big deal to play for the Reds, and they carried on a LOT of traditions and had rules/standards.

No facial hair. Low-cut stirrup socks. When travelling had to be in suit and tie, etc.

Yep. Rollie Fingers grew his distinctive moustache at the time and got the cash.

He still wears it that way.

Before the promotion, he was clean shaven, and it looks "odd" to see him that way.

I sat around talking with Rollie, Campy and other 70’s A’s a couple springs ago.

Rollie and Campy look good and Rolllie’s ‘stache is still there and well groomed.

I highly doubt they’re attempting to emulate ISIS...

Neither am I. I’ve had a beard for almost 50 years, if it gets somebody’s panties in a wad, so be it.

The Mad Hungarian !! Wow, I actually remembered :)

He’s an announcer now for Fox Sports Midwest and seems to be an all around nice guy. I remember him when he pitched for the Cardinals (but I’m old)

"Like no betting on M.L.B. games?"

Yeah, I guess Pete is in a "league of his own".

Yeesh, every time that guy opens his mouth even more lies come out

I have no idea how he's going to weasel out of the recent accusations of betting on the 1984 World Series.

He's such a degenerate gambler, that when all is said and done, I'd guess that not only did he bet on baseball while a player, but that he was gambling on the Reds his whole career.

Notice that when Pete came out during the recent All-Star game, he went to give Johnny Bench a high five and a hug.

Bench looked startled and appalled.

It's no secret that he hates Rose. Always has.

I wonder if Bench knows quite a bit about Pete's off-field antics.

There's some serious bad blood there.

The New York Yankees generally prohibit players from facial hair or overly long hair. If they acquire Johnny Cueto from the Cincinnati Reds, will they require him to get rid of the dreadlocks?

Uh...I’ve worn a full beard since I was 18, and I’m no Jihadist.

It’s ‘cause I was a logger, and a Forest Ranger up in Alaska, a Park ranger in Montana and a BLM contractor in North Idaho.

Then I did construction all over the West: Vegas, Spokane, North Idaho, Kansas, the Bay Area and Oregon.

EVERYONE I worked with had full, rural, redneck logger beards. Most of them have switched to goatees, as the B’klyn and Manhattan hipsters started wearing beards.

But that’d be my guess.
