To the north of California's famous San Andreas fault is a less known, but possibly more deadly, fault line. The Cascadia subduction zone runs some 700 miles from northern California to Vancouver.

In a deeply reported article for The New Yorker, Kathryn Schulz tells the tale of how this fault lies dormant for periods of 243 years, on average, before unleashing monstrous tremors. The Pacific Northwest is 72 years overdue for the next quake, which is expected to be between 8.0 and 9.2 in magnitude.

Yeah, like when a volcano lets loose and half the Canary Islands drop into the sea and create a 1,000 ft tsunami... That should create some urban renewal

When the margin of error is in the tens of thousands of years, I feel pretty comfortable we will be OK.

9:41 is the time Apple uses for all of it's devices in ads - check out the pic I posted, it's not fake. If you Google it, there are articles discussing it.

As for September 2015, that's when the last of the four blood moons takes place, along with its related solar eclipse. Google that as well, it's pretty wild. I wouldn't be surprised if September is exciting!

I was in Grand Forks during the big flood.

I had friends who owned the largest construction company in the area (it wasn’t very large) and as the water receded they went to work-—moving mud, shoring up dikes, digging trenches for draining and so on.

Some days in FEMA arrived and told them to shut down immediately, because only FEMA could review the damage, survey the terrain and prescribe necessary remedies. This, of course, would take several weeks (at least) to complete.

My buddy and his family (and everyone else with a tractor, a backhoe, a blade, a shovel) shrugged their shoulders and went back to work. They had most of the basic dams and dikes and ditches completed when FEMA returned to begin their assessments.

MUCH of their fundamental work remains in place today.

If it takes out San Francisco, Seattle and Portland, I’m all for it.

Vancouver can go too. Too many reds, drugs, crackheads.

Take photos now.

Although get this - 41% of 30 days is 12.3 days. On September 12, at 11:55pm in California where Apple is, the solar eclipse associated with the last blood moon will take place. It won't be visible from CA and it's actually at 12.99 days instead of 12.3, but hey, it makes it in on September 12. With a few beers, that can be considered spooky! LOL!

There were a number of bills in Oregon’s legislature for more money for earthquake preparedness, including for departments like Land Conservation. Just another way for politicians to justify expenditures.
